The Real Legend of Sleepy Hollow

For me after 10 minutes of mediation, showering, brushing and flossing, morning grapefruit juice and vitamins I head off to my command center which is actually my desk and computer where I plan my day. I write down what I need to accomplish. I make two lists one that contains the 3 most important things I need to accomplish and another on items that I need to address but which are less important. I attack and solve the 3 most important items and then if there is time move to the less urgent ones. If I don’t get all of these done I will move them to tomorrow. On Monday mornings since I am not in the office I also track if I am accomplishing my yearly goals. The goals can never be fully accomplished because they are set a bit too high but the challenge is to see at the end of the year how close I came and then move the bar up again.

With summer now over hopefully you had an enjoyable and relaxing time. Were you able to go to the beach, drive or fly somewhere? Living in New York City requires some time off from our hectic lifestyles for continued mental and physical health. Usually on January 1st people set goals for the coming year. Hopefully you are on your path to reaching yours but if not: How about setting some new goals right now for the fourth quarter of this year.

Maybe you need to lose a little weight, become more organized or try to save more than you spend.

One thing I find helpful is to develop a morning ritual. Getting up a little earlier in Manhattan before everyone else finds the city quieter and calmer.

Goals can only be obtained through perseverance, determination and tracking. If you want to lose weight you need to watch what you eat, do some aerobic and weight resistance exercise and track your weight and waist weekly. As you age you need to monitor your blood pressure and if elevated analyze your diet, increase your weekly exercise or visit your doctor. I want to see you for a long time. If you want to save money you have to develop the discipline of putting money away each week or on payday to pay yourself first before paying everyone else. This can be very challenging but necessary. If you haven’t started to develop good habits maybe now is the time. Labor Day has just passed and marks the end of summer and the beginning of a new cycle. Make the beginning of September your new beginning and begin today.
