December 2025 Oracle

It is hard to believe that another winter season is upon at ORPS. A great deal of time and effort has been spent this summer by our new GM, Synthia Salazar, and her team preparing the Resort for the arrival of our winter residents. On behalf of the Board I want to thank Synthia and her team for their dedication and commitment to making ORPS the best it can be. As you travel around the Resort you may notice some of the projects that were completed over the summer – refinished doors to the Owner ’ s Lounge, a new bridge to Hole 1 of the Big 18 golf course, new patio furniture for the Owner ’ s Lounge, a refurbished Satellite C (which should be open by the time this article is published), a golf course that was in tip-top shape for Opening Day, the conversion of the convenience store to a meeting room, a refurbished La Palma Café, a new pergola around the Starter Shack along with a refreshed look and many more updates around the Resort. Serena and her team along with the Lifestyle Committee have prepared a social calendar that caters to the many needs of our residents. Many favorites are back for another season (like Singo) along with free entertainment throughout the week as well as special events. For the active folks in the Resort we have pool aerobics and line dancing along with Tennis, Golf, Pickleball and Corn Hole just to name a few. And many groups meet on a regular basis to play cards and other Board games around the Resort. Abby Lomeli does a great job of keeping us informed of upcoming events through the Daily Planner. If you do not receive those notifications, please check in with the Front Office and make sure you are set up for our on-going notifications. As I close for this edition I want to thank all our volunteers who make ORPS the best place to be as we enjoy our winter months. Without our volunteers there would be no holiday decorations, ice cream social, burger night and golf tournaments just to name a few. And I would be remiss if I did not thank my fellow Directors on the Board. They work tirelessly with the goal of making ORPS the best place it can be. On behalf of the Board I wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Hanukkah and any other holiday you celebrate this month. And let ’ s have a fantastic 2025-2026 season. The Safety & Security Committee (SSC) is excited about the start of a new season! This season ’ s goals are to build upon the successes of prior years. Earthquake & disaster preparedness is the highest priority. Key components include: 1. Ensuring the radios and rescue & first aid equipment are in good working condition. 2. The Emergency Response Team (ERT) remains stable with 35 experienced volunteers. 3. Emergency response training sessions are conducted for all ERT members. Emergency preparedness education for all owners and renters continues. 4. Emergency preparedness education for all owners and renters continues.

Where can I find the complete ORPS Emergency Response Plan on-line? The complete (4-page) Emergency Response Plan is easily accessible on the ORPS.com website on the home page. Simply click on the “ Emergency Prepared- ness ” quick link. The plan can also be found in the own- er ’ s Enumerate Engage member portal by clicking on the “ Resources ” tab on the left side of the page and scrolling down to the “ Emergency Preparedness Plan ” link. Which side of the road should I walk on? Walking on the left side of the street facing oncoming traffic is safer because it allows you to see approaching vehicles, make eye contact with drivers, and have more time to react to potential dangers. This practice gives you a better chance to move out of the way if a car or golf cart veers off course, as you can see them coming and take evasive action. This practice is widely recom- mended within ORPS to increase visibility for both the pedestrian and the driver. The Safety & Security Committee is always looking for new volunteers to join the ORPS Emergency Response Team! If you are interested then please contact any of the committee members for additional information.

Last season the SSC distributed newly created red emergency preparedness cards into all owners ’ mailboxes. Since then, these red cards have been included in all new owner and renter welcome packets. The goal is to ensure all owners and renters have these 2-sided cards readily available and take advantage of the information provided. If you cannot locate your emergency preparedness card then replacements can be obtained at the ORPS administrative office near the

Being a good steward of your golf course Welcome back everyone and have a great time enjoying your golf course. This is your course, and we all need to remember to take care of it and do not expect someone to fix your ball divot on the greens or the rat you took on the tea box. The fastest way to ruin a good thing is to not care for it. When you are playing in your golf group, please show others, that may not know how, to fix their ball divot on the green and the tee box. Remind others you may be playing with, that everyone, no matter how good they are, are required to use a tee on every tee box and also are required to fix and fill any turf that they take, including cleaning up their rat off of the tee box. By taking less than a minute to clean up after yourselves we can continue to have this beautiful course in our resort. Congratulations to our new team of landscapers . If you get a chance, say hello to our new team of land- scapers. Feel free to let them know what a great job they are doing. Our resort might be new to them with all the little quirks, but so far, they have shown that they do know what they are doing and care about their contri- bution to our resort. Opening Day Tournament What a great start to a new season here at the resort. From great food before our tournament, to one of the smoothest rounds of eight person scramble I have ever played in. Congratulations to all of you that made our event fun and well-paced. I feel that your Golf Committee, along with Ryln and his team allowed for a smooth day, thank you all. We look forward to seeing all of you out enjoying golf and friendships. Tee it up, line it up and keep-up, so we all can enjoy the greatest par three in town.

There is a story of a husband whose wife was a believer in the Christ of Christmas, but he was not. He just couldn't accept this tale of God becoming a man. It sounded too far-fetched and magical and frankly, quite irrelevant to him. One snowy Christmas Eve his wife left for the local church service, as she usually did, and he, of course, remained at home. As he sat alone in his living room, he heard the sound of something hitting his front window. And then he heard it again. He looked out to see small birds flying into the glass of the window. They were obviously trying to escape the bitter cold outside. They were hoping to find saving warmth but they couldn't get in. What could he do to save them? Then he had an idea. He would go out and open the large barn doors, turn on the lights inside, and hope that the birds would find their way in. They would find warmth and be saved. But try as he might to get them to go into the place of safety, they didn't understand and wouldn't go in. He thought, "If only I could speak to them. If only I could become one of them and tell them the way to safety." Just then he heard the sound of the Christmas Eve bells ringing across the fields from the church. And then it hit him. That is what God did. He became one of us to show us the way to salvation. In fact, He was the way. And then it somehow all made sense to him, and he fell to his knees in the snow in wonder. "He became one of us to save us"

Several members attended the Arts and Letters Lecture Series at UCR Palm Desert and enjoyed an interview with noted author Susan Straight. They enjoyed dinner at Mario ’ s Italian Cafe. There are so many benefits for reading a book for a few minutes a day and we encourage others to join our group.

Giving Back: Supporting the Cathedral City Senior Center Beyond the celebration, the club ’ s commitment to giving back shined brightly. This year ’ s events supported food donations for the Cathedral City Senior Center, resulting in a remarkable 636 pounds of food collected to aid local seniors in need. The generosity of club members and the wider community made this achievement possible, reflecting the heart and spirit of ORPS Under The Rainbow Club. In addition, the community's generosity made it possible for two clubs, the FMCA ORPS Chapter, presented by Sue Strauss, and the ORPS Under The Rainbow Club— to join forces. Together, they donated an additional $460 to support the Senior Center.

ORPS Under The Rainbow Club Hosts 2nd Annual Pride Golf Cart Parade and T-Dance Kickoff

A Vibrant Start to the Season The ORPS Under The Rainbow Club launched this season ’ s festivities with their 2nd annual Pride golf cart parade, setting the stage for a colorful and spirited kickoff to the popular T-Dance. Club members, residents, and guests gathered to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and unity, cruising through the resort in festively decorated golf carts that showcased the vibrant pride of the community.

A special thank you goes to Glenne McEhinney, whose dedication and organizational skills were instrumental in coordinating the food donation drive. Through Glenne ’ s leadership, the club ’ s efforts made a significant impact on the Senior Center Food Bank. Additionally, heartfelt appreciation goes out to the Orange Guys (Mark & Rob) for their enthusiastic support in collecting donations along the Pride parade route. Their commitment and energy ensured the success of the food drive and made a meaningful difference for the Cathedral City Senior Center Food Bank.

With the continued support and enthusiasm of the club and the community, ORPS Under The Rainbow Club is poised for another season filled with pride, generosity, and togetherness.

Distinguished Guests and Unforgettable Entertainment

The T-Dance was further elevated by the presence of Cathedral City Mayor Nancy Ross and City Commissioner Antonio Baciu, who both attended to celebrate with the community.
