TAKE A BREAK!

I will never forget one of the first patients I met who wore full dentures. She taught me more than any professor ever could. This patient had been wearing dentures for about 15 years. She needed a new set because the teeth on hers were worn down to nubs, and she was using more Fixodent to hold them in then I have ever seen before. After removing the denture and layers of Fixodent, I saw some of the most painful looking gum tissue I have ever seen. She not only had an oral yeast infection that took about three months to clear, but her gum tissue had also grown over the edges of the denture and needed to be removed surgically before we could make another denture. You see, her husband didn’t know she had dentures, and she never took them out for more than a few minutes! Not Your Grandparents’ Dentures

Paleo Stuffing

Thanksgiving isn’t a hard holiday for those who eat paleo. Almost all of the savory staples were paleo before it was cool. Stuffing is a notable exception, but this recipe’s got you covered. INGREDIENTS

Traditional dentures can be a great option to replace missing teeth, but they come with drawbacks and serious adjustment. Fortunately, there are other choices.

Implant supported dentures (ISD) are held in place by implants placed in the jaw. A surgeon places the implants and then the denture is made and secured by a general dentist. ISD are smaller than traditional dentures. These dentures can be permanently fixed in place or attached in a way that lets you remove them each night, but you don’t need to leave them out all night. The advantages of ISD are as follows:

2 tbsp ghee or avocado oil

1/4 cup flat-leaf parsley, chopped

• • •

3 cups onion, diced 2 cups celery, diced 1 cup mushroom, diced 1 cup apple, cored and diced 1/2 cup dried cranberries, chopped

3 tsp poultry seasoning 1/2 tsp salt

• • • •

1/2 tsp black pepper 2 cups almond flour

• Food tastes like it should.

3 eggs, beaten

• You can eat anything — corn on the cob, chewy steak, apples.

• Your speech is more natural.

DIRECTIONS

1. Heat an oven to 350 F. 2. In a large cast-iron skillet, heat ghee or avocado oil over medium heat. 3. Add onion, celery, mushrooms, apple, cranberries, parsley, seasoning, salt, and pepper to pan. Sauté for 7 minutes. 4. Remove from heat. Stir in almond flour. Once mixed well, stir in eggs. Transfer to oven and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour. 5. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

• Your jaw bone structure will be maintained (which keeps your face looking younger).

• You’ll have a more confident, natural smile.

• There is less risk of embarrassment.

Patients with traditional dentures who are not happy can often have dentures converted into an implant supported dentures! There are many commercials advertising these on TV, but many people do not know they are available right here in Huntsville!
