&/#3&'r#3*&'4 ASSAULT ARREST Brian St Denis, 47, from Hawkes- bury, was arrested and charged with assault after a disturbance on May 29 in North Glengarry. Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry OPP officers were called to a residence on Kincardine Street West in North Glengarry at approximately 5:21 p.m. The investigation indicated that an altercation resulted in a man striking another man. St Denis was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on July 10. SANDBAGS CLEAN-UP The Township of Champlain will be organizing a team of volunteers to assist homeowners with the removal of their sandbag walls, on Saturday June 8. Starting at 9 a.m., firefighters will go door to door to the affected residences, in order to have the property owners sign a liability waiver that allows the volunteers to enter onto private property. Volunteers will be assisting only in the removal of sandbags. They are not authorized to assist with any other clean-up requests.

Gatien. Ils ont rejeté notre dernière offre, alors aucune idée de ce qui va arriver maintenant. On n’a encore rien entendu de leur part, alors on attend patiemment. »
Une trentaine d’employés municipaux syndiqués de la Ville de Hawkesbury ont manifesté leur colère la semaine dernière. « On demande une augmentation de salaire de 1.5 % et ils ne veulent rien savoir. Mais la mairesse, elle, vient de se donner une augmentation de 25 %, a lancé Alain Larocque, président du Syndicat canadien de la fonction publique (SCFP) #1026, lors d’une manifestation devant l’hôtel de ville de Hawkesbury, le vendredi 31 mai dernier. Les membres sont fâchés, ils sont tannés et ils veulent juste être respectés. » Cette manifestation survient plus d’un an après l’échéance de la dernière convention collective des 62 membres syndiqués. Ce groupe d’une soixantaine d’employés com- prend des employés des travaux publics, du complexe sportif, de la bibliothèque, qui n’a pas été renouvelée depuis avril 2018. Les discussions ont commencé le 22 juin 2018 et la dernière rencontre entre le syndicat et la Ville a eu lieu en avril de DFUUFBOOÊFjø&OBWSJM JMTPOUGBJUVOFEFS - nière offre : ils voulaient nous donner 1.5 % d’augmentation, mais nous enlever certaines choses, comme nos heures accumulées et abolir les emplois temporaires, a expliqué M. Il faut que je leur donne quelque chose pour avoir mon 1.5 %. » Au départ, les membres du SCFP #1026 avaient d’autres revendications que l’aug- mentation salariale, surtout en ce qui concerne leurs bénéfices. « Ils ne veulent rien savoir d’augmenter nos bénéfices, d’augmenter nos frais dentaires, a déclaré M. Larocque. Alors maintenant on est prêt à accepter le 1.5 % et le contrat reste le même, mais ils disent non à ça aussi. » « Cette augmentation de 1.5 % ne repré- sente même pas 50 cents de l’heure et un total d’à peu près 700 $ à la fin de l’année », a expliqué pour sa part Monique Brunet, la trésorière de la SCFP #1026. Les travailleurs du SCFP #1026 conti- nuent présentement leurs travaux comme d’habitude, attendant des résultats éven- tuels. « On veut juste donner un meilleur service au public. C’est ça que 100 % des membres veulent faire, a déclaré M. Lar- coque. On ne veut pas que le public soit affecté, mais ils nous demandent de faire plus avec moins. »
