ANCC Bridge Lessons ANCC is offering an 18-week bridge class which will be taught by Marty and Ross Bley, certified bridge teachers. The classes will be held at ANCC Arlington, will be two hours long, and will begin at 5:00 pm. Classes will be held on Tuesdays beginning 20 January 2026. The cost for these classes will be $25.00 per person per session. Cash or Check to be presented at the first class to the instructors. If interest in learning continues, the sessions may be extended for more Tuesdays in the summer/fall. The ANCC duplicate bridge club meets on Tuesday nights with games starting at 7:00pm. An open game and a beginner game are held. Bridge class students will be welcome to stay and observe the Tuesday night game, and then participate in the beginner game at the end of this first course. To register, or get more class details, contact teacher Marty Bley at campspringsduplicatebc@gmail.com.
New Executive Officers/Board Emphasize Accountability, Civility, and Bold Decision-making Following Board Elections on 3 October 2025, the new ANCC Board of Governors elected four new officers to the Executive Committee: Club Chair, Scott Border; Club President, Col Chris Marslender; V.P. Lt Col Justin J. Swick; Membership Chair COL Jon Dunne and Secretary Ken Quinn at its organizational meeting on 3 November 2025. The new group joins Executive Committee veterans Treasurer CAPT Dave Graff, Planning Chair CAPT Joe Mahan, and Finance Chair John Tuck. New Club Chair, Border, stated: “I’m humbled by the confidence the Board has placed in me and look forward to building on the superb progress that past Chair Raighne Delaney made during his long stewardship of the Club.” Following their Installation Dinner on 15 November, the new Board gathered on Saturday, 16 November. This involved a detailed orientation session with a comprehensive overview of the club’s governance structure, roles, expectations, latest data, and best practices for board members. Servant Leadership and Core Values Border noted he hoped to “usher in an emphasis on servant leadership,” urging board members to “get to know and prioritize member needs above your own.” He reminded Board members to “always keep close to our military and patriotic culture,” and “remain mindful of our need to make the Club available at moderate expense.” He noted the Board would seek to create multiple opportunities for member engagement, using surveys, town hall meetings, and one-on-one interactions. As early manifestations of doing so, the Board scheduled and held a Town Hall on 17 November on its Facilities Master Plan, soliciting comments from members on subjects ranging from proposals for the Arlington golf course renovation, the Fairfax Wing proposal, and other sports and dining capital projects. He noted that Club By-Laws require a two-thirds vote of the membership for any large-scale project to proceed, so no high-cost project (in excess of $940,000) can go forward if it’s not supported in concept, purpose and costs by the membership.
Border noted that the Board held its first “Meet the New Executive Committee and Activity Chairs” session at the Fairfax facility, where it will also held its first EXCOM and Committee Chairs meeting on 23 November. Although Club usage at Fairfax remains lower than at the Arlington facility, “our Fairfax campus holds a special place in our heart and plays a critical role in accommodating our member needs, requiring our investment and close attention,” Border observed. Border also explained that with a 2,400 Resident member cap in the By-Laws being reached, the Club will face financial strain without our recent influx of new members, both civilian and military. Border also noted that ANCC’s average initiation fees are significantly lower than every country club in the region, which is not sustainable over the long term. Border stressed the need to “continue making capital investments for our future, not just operating and maintaining our club.” Affordability of the club, however, remains a priority for all members. Border highlighted one way of continuing to make capital and needed investments without burdening the membership with special assessment or dues/ initiation fee increases are lump-sum gifts and legacy gifts. A recent example is the opening of fire pits just in time for the Winter season. “The fire pits are the result of a legacy gift from one of our generous members, and we’re deeply appreciative,” Border stated. “Keeping ANCC in mind as a lump-sum gift or as part of your estate planning can be a wonderful way of leaving a legacy and giving back to the Club that has provided great enjoyment and special memories for you and your family over the years,” Border said. ANCC’s foundation—headed by LTC Eric Schnabel—is another great way to give back. Apart from focusing on the our military heritage, the foundation also seeks to give back and support our great staff and our local communities. Because the foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity, it also serves as a tax-wise investment in our club for our members.
Club Secretary Quinn highlighted “our core values of accountability, civility, kindness, open-mindedness, and transparency in governing.” Both members and Governors “need to know and respect our rules,” Quinn noted, “and a little courtesy, decency, and mutual respect can go a long way, whether on the golf course, at the pool, on the tennis court, at the bar, or in meetings.” Teamwork and “disagreeing without being disagreeable” were identified as essential for effective governance and a harmonious board dynamics. The Board and Membership Chair are hoping for a much-reduced workload from complaints, encouraging greater compliance with Club rules and informal dispute resolution. Quinn noted that much of the Board’s work is accomplished through its committees, with the principal committees of Finance, Membership, and Planning, with key activity special committees of House & Entertainment, Racquet Sports, Aquatics, Youth Activities, Fitness & Wellness and Golf and Green. He noted that minutes of these meetings are placed on the Club website for review by all members. GM Patrick King noted at the orientation session that utilization of the pool, golf courses, tennis courts, and food & beverage (including the Wine Club and special events) are at, or near, all-time highs. This high demand and utilization will continue to create a challenge for the Club and its professional staff. All members are encouraged to sign up quickly for events and have patience, as the Club attempts to increase the number of opportunities to enjoy at the Club. Border concluded the Orientation by stressing that Board members were urged to think boldly, recognize budget constraints, take advantage of AI and new technology, and understand that not all good ideas can be implemented immediately. Teamwork, compromise, trade-offs, and open-mindedness are critical for club progress, noted the new Chair.

Don’t miss out on a great experience competing against other country clubs and playing a variety of local courses. You are eligible to join the league if you are 50 or older, whether or not you have already retired. ANCC fields two separate teams which are very competitive in league play -- one at Arlington and one at Fairfax. Both teams are always looking for new players who like competitive golf. Each team will play 10 or 12 other teams both home and away for a season which runs from early April through early October. Play is on Thursday mornings and is four-ball match play with a three-point Nassau, combined with a sweepstakes competition. We use handicaps in all matches. Our team members have handicap indexes ranging from the single digits through the mid-thirties, and foursomes are assigned with a view to having like handicaps play together. As a team member, you will be assigned to play in at least a third of our matches during the season and may volunteer to play any other matches as well. 2026 Northern Virginia Retired Men’s Golf Association (NVRMGA)

WDCGA: Women’s District of Columbia Golf Association
The Women’s District of Columbia Golf Association (WDCGA) closed out the season with the President’s Plate held at TPC Avenel. This event rewards the season’s volunteers with a round of golf and lunch at the President’s home course. ANCC’s Linda Nguyen successfully defended her 2024 President’s Plate Champion title, an unusual feat. In October, Susan Walthall won the 5th flight in the 3 day WDCGA Championship held at Trump. During the 2025 season, the WDCGA held 25 tournaments in 22 days at 17 area country clubs. This was made possible by nearly 40 volunteers serving as host club volunteers who were supported by our all-volunteer Executive Board and Club Golf Professionals. Membership for WDCGA starts DEC 1 and is $75 per year. Female players with a handicap index of 21.9 or better can join at any time during the season; however, spring Match Play teams are formed based on intended membership and handicap indexes as of 1NOV. We anticipate matchplay divisions with approximately 6 teams in each division. 2026 play will run from 20 April-28 May. If you are not a member and are interested in joining, please contact your club representative at: Margaret Ann Connors, ANCC Club Representative to WDCGA maconnors09@yahoo.com or 240.620.6903.

FITNESS & WELLNESS MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Fitness Overview The Fitness and Wellness department at Army Navy Country Club offers a variety of services to help you on your fitness and wellness journey. From personal training and group classes, to massage therapy, assisted stretching and wellness activities. Our goal is to make the Fitness and Wellness Center the hub of all of your activities at ANCC. If you have any suggestions or questions for our Fitness and Wellness department, please contact Jay Guillory, Director of Fitness & Wellness, at jay.guillory@ancc.org . Congratulations to Walt Jeffress for reaching an incredible milestone—his 100th PGA TOUR Champions Pro-Am at the Chubb Classic! We are thrilled to share that our inaugural Blood Drive, held on Tuesday, 15 July, was a tremendous success— thanks to you! With our initial 54 registered donors our goal was at least 27 viable pints of blood but with your support, we collected 46 pints of blood , including contributions from 20 first-time donors . That’s a chance to make a life-saving difference for over 138 patients in need across our community. Walt’s dedication to the game and his commitment to supporting charitable causes through these events is truly inspiring. It took 20 years to complete the 100 Pro-Ams (2005-2025) at various venues, over 15 years at the Chubb Classic in Naples Florida. Walt exemplifies the spirit of giving back. Your generosity directly helps boost the local blood supply and ensures that hospitals are equipped to care for those who depend on timely transfusions—from trauma victims to cancer patients and beyond. We couldn’t be prouder of this community and grateful for the incredible turnout. Thank you for rolling up your sleeves and showing what it means to give back. As we look ahead, we’d love your input! If you participated in the drive—or are interested in future events—please take a moment to share your thoughts. Your feedback will help us plan even more successful blood drives in the future. Please click here for the Blood Drive Survey. WALT JEFFRESS We celebrate his achievement and look forward to many more years of success and generosity. Well done, Walt! Enjoying a cup of coffee or cocoa – notice the feel of the cup in your hand, the temperature of the drink, the taste and smell. 3. Wrapping a gift – notice the feel of the paper, the sound it makes, the texture of the bow, the various colors, perhaps bring to mind the person you are giving the gift to.

RACQUET SPORTS
NEW STRINGING SERVICE
We are pleased to introduce RacquetPass, our new racquet-stringing service designed to enhance and streamline your experience with the Racquets De- partment. As many of you know, restringing a racquet is not only necessary when a string breaks, proper tension plays a major role in improving power, control, and, importantly, injury prevention. Our stringing operation continues to grow, and one frequent question we receive is: “What was my racquet strung at last time?” Due to limitations of the previous system, we were not always able to provide that infor- mation. With RacquetPass, all of your stringing history will now be stored and easily accessible, allowing our pros and desk staff to make informed, personalized recommendations based on your past setups. How it works: Simply bring your racquet to the Pro Shop and let our desk staff know your preferred strings and tension. They will enter the request for you through the RacquetPass system, and you will receive text or email updates once your racquet is completed and ready for pickup. RacquetPass supports tennis stringing as well as grips and accessories, providing faster turnaround, clear communication, and a more streamlined member experience. We believe this service aligns perfectly with our com- mitment to innovating and elevating the racquets pro- gram, and we hope you enjoy this added convenience throughout the year.
