Loyd J. Bourgeois Attorney-at-Law
WHAT IT REALLY MEANS TO
You’ve seen it on our billboards. You’ve heard it around town. But what does it really mean to Give Them the L? At Loyd J. Bourgeois Injury and Accident Lawyer, “Give Them the L” isn’t just a slogan. It’s about standing with our neighbors, fighting for what’s fair, and making sure the right side wins.
When we say, “Give Them the L,” we mean two things.
First, the L stands for the loss the insurance company takes when they try to underpay or deny your claim, and we fight back. Second, the L stands for the win you take home — the justice, closure, and resources you need to move forward. GIVING THE INSURANCE COMPANY THE LOSS Insurance companies protect their profits, not people. They often offer the bare minimum, hoping you’ll take less than you deserve. When that happens, we step in to make sure the loss is on their side, not yours. Our team knows what it takes to turn lowball offers into fair settlements. We’ve seen it time and again, and we don’t back down. GIVING OUR CLIENTS THE WIN Every win means something bigger than numbers on a check. It means peace of mind. It means covering medical care, replacing lost income, restoring stability to your life, and protecting your family. ROOTED IN COMMUNITY “Give Them the L” isn’t just about fighting in court. It’s about showing up for our community. You’ll find us at local festivals, school events, and on the sidelines cheering for our youth teams. We’re proud to live, work, and give back right here in the River Parishes and across Louisiana. THE L’S WE LIVE BY At LJBLegal, we believe every “L” tells part of our story:
I created this workbook for you to document all the evidence you need to obtain a fair settlement from the insurance company after getting hurt in a wreck; things you may forget with time, like: • The accident details. • Witness information. • The progression of your pain and symptoms. • History of missed work and wages. • Names of doctors and dates of visits. • And more! APPLE CRISP
This easy apple crisp from thechunkychef.com is perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and salted caramel sauce! SPICED APPLES INGREDIENTS • 6 golden delicious apples peeled and chopped or sliced; other varieties can be used • 2 tbsp. granulated sugar • 1 tbsp. all-purpose flour • 3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon • 1 1/2 tsp. lemon juice CRISP TOPPING INGREDIENTS • 1 cup light brown sugar • 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats; quick oats can be used, but it may have a slightly different texture
• 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter diced into small cubes INSTRUCTIONS 1. PREPARE: Preheat oven to 350°F degrees. Butter an 8× by 8 baking dish or spray with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside. 2. MAKE SPICED APPLES: In a mixing bowl, add the chopped apples, granulated sugar, flour, 3/4 tsp. of the cinnamon and lemon juice. Stir to combine, then transfer to the prepared baking dish. 3. MAKE TOPPING: In a separate mixing bowl, add topping ingredients (brown sugar, oats, flour, 1 tsp. cinnamon, salt, and diced cold butter). 4. Use a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the oat mixture, using a slight downward twisting motion, until mixture resembles
pea-sized crumbs. Alternatively,
you can use two forks or even your hands to cut butter into the mixture. 5. BAKE: Spread
topping over the apples in the baking dish and gently pat to even it out. Bake 40 to 50 minutes until golden brown and bubbly. 6. SERVE: Serve warm and enjoy! We love to top ours with some vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel.
• 3/4 cup all-purpose flour • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon • Pinch of kosher salt
WHY DO TODAY’S BUILDINGS ALL LOOK THE SAME? There’s been some chatter (to put it mildly) lately about Cracker Barrel’s old-timey motif and logo, which sparked a bigger question — why did restaurants and stores in the 1980s and 1990s have such distinctive looks, while today so many buildings feel like plain, interchangeable boxes? Think back to the Pizza Hut with its unmistakable red roof, Taco Bell’s mission- style arches, or even the quirky layouts of local diners. These places had personality. Today, you’re more likely to find a rectangular
building that could house anything from a sandwich shop to a cell phone store.

In the past, companies often built “signature” locations meant to stand out and attract attention. But over time, corporations realized that real estate is one of their most valuable assets. A building with a unique shape or style is harder to sell or lease if the business closes or moves. A simple, generic box is easier to repurpose, which makes it more appealing to investors. So, while those old Pizza Huts became neighborhood landmarks, today’s stores are designed to be flexible investments first and
memorable gathering places a distant second.
Maybe that’s why so many of us feel nostalgic for the days when a restaurant’s look told you exactly where you were.
