in motion Pearland FALL 2022
HELLO, PEARLAND!
Welcome to fall, y’all! This is a great time of year when the temperatures start to cool down and we can look forward to our Trick-or-Treat Trail on Halloween. Here at Pearland City Hall , the next fiscal year is underway. I know the budget may seem like a weird thing to celebrate, but it is really important. The City’s fiscal year runs from October 1 through September 30 every year. The work that is planned to build and maintain

the Pearland community—and the accompanying budget to fund that work—take months to prepare. To remain good stewards of the public dollars entrusted to Pearland’s professional government team, we spend countless hours planning and prioritizing projects to provide the services you expect as a resident. The City budget, covering expenditures for police, fire, roads, drainage, parks and additional categories, requires more than $100 million in annual operating costs. The revenue comes primarily from a minority portion of the local property tax, sales tax, permit fees and several minor sources. The professional staff and elected representatives on the City Council start conducting public meetings months before the budget is approved to provide recommendations on priorities and to get feedback on the overall direction. Once everything is settled, the Council approves the budget prior to October 1 and once again we are off to the races making sure every dollar is used according to the plan. This is why it is such an exciting time for your City government staff and representatives! If you ever have any questions, or just want to know more about the budget, projects or anything else, email me at cpearson@pearlandtx.gov. We’ll see you at the Trick-or-Treat Trail!
