Whilst the translation of original art into limited edition has become extremely accomplished, viewing originals is always a joy, and an opportunity not to be missed. The evolution of idea into composition, and eventually a finished piece, is an inspiring process; one best appreciated from viewing original art in its raw glory. Artists within our portfolio work in many mediums – watercolour, oil, pencil, acrylic, spray paint, plastics, metals and ceramics – their pieces created on paper, panel, canvas and board. The subject matter varies from artist to artist, but they are united in being the finest in their genre. 11 leading contemporary artists of varying styles have been brought together to form this stunning collection of current work from the UK, France and Italy. The exhibition will comprise a thorough insight into Europe’s contemporary art work though works by a collection of fascinating artists. Exposition offers the audience a chance to view the many different forms and facets of contemporary art.
RICHARD/ROWAN
Never afraid to challenge himself by undertaking impossibly intricate work, Richard Rowan’s artistic practice demands new techniques. His precise and painstaking ‘back to front’ method of applying oils on glass, working from the foreground backwards, not only lends itself beautifully to the subject matter, but begs the question, how does he do it? With each layer needing up to two weeks to dry, before adding the aurora as the final element, timing truly is everything. “I believe the minute I stop learning is the minute I stop painting. Every single painting has a new technique - no one painting can come close to being the same.”

PLUME
The Birmingham-based artist collective features Ernest Otoo and Andy Pilsbury. Mixing kaleidoscopic drops of ink into large tanks, they photograph the mesmerising splash of colours to create beautiful one-off prints. After their sell-out success, they were commissioned by publisher Washington Green Fine Art to create a bespoke collection and are still in high demand across our galleries. “The medium is naturally beautiful. We didn’t feel there was a need to weigh it down with a deep and heavy meaning; each viewer takes away their own experience.”

Alex Echo’s artwork is unique and instantly recognisable, using a technique that has never been seen before. His paintings resonate with the beauty and history of Impressionism, yet they speak with a contemporary voice and structure of abstraction and even minimalism. Trying to synthesise the many schools of painting that he has admired over the years, Alex’s paintings seek to find a balance between the past and present, history and the contemporary. Each of his artworks is a ballet between light, water, colour and time, and Alex tries to capture all in each new painting. “All I do, and all I intend to do, is paint to the best of my ability beautiful, bright, colourful, joyous, interesting, non-threatening, kind, inventive, artwork.”

Boldly conceived and skilfully created, Stephen Simpson’s art pays homage to the origins of Abstract Impressionism. His unconventional application of paint presents his audience with an unmatched floral composition, a theme that has recently become synonymous with Stephen’s art. Every seemingly careless brushstroke has its part to play in the tapestry of work that results in this unparalleled collection, which exudes confidence and vivacity. “Before creating this new body of work I knew I wanted it to be bold with colour but in keeping with my style, which has naturally developed over the last five years. It had to retain the illusion of light in each painting, giving movement and depth.”

TEMPER
Temper, the artist, grew from the hip-hop and graffiti art culture which predominated during his formative years. Nowadays he continues to take inspiration from street art, popular culture, comic book art and music, as well as being heavily interested in symbolism and influenced by philosophy, astrology and icons of our time as well as the cult of celebrity. But, most importantly, he is inspired by his own experiences, ups and downs, and his own journey continuing to inform his art and ideas. “Each artwork reveals an androgynous, Romanesque figure that represents the duality and balance of life. The figures are stepping ‘out of darkness’ and into the light of our world.”

Exploring moods and feelings is the backbone of Paul Kenton’s creations, very often painting places he has visited throughout his life; he tries to relive his feelings and memories of those cities, portraying them on canvas. Paul’s technique is extremely free and unplanned, forgoing sketching and planning in favour of the immediacy of diving into the heart of the painting. Like the vast, sprawling metropolises depicted in his paintings, Paul’s style is constantly evolving yet its unique character abuzz with a rich and satisfying tapestry of city life − is unmistakable. “My cityscapes reflect the many moods of manmade landscapes; I find it exhilarating to express furious movement, artificial lights and the vibrancy of a busy city centre at night as well as the subtler moods of a misty dawn at the same venue.”

A native of France, Pascale is fascinated by the power and beauty of fashion. Conveying the empowerment of fashion through mood, colour, atmosphere and texture, she aims to inspire self-love and confidence through her oil paintings. Her studio walls are adorned with drawings, photographs and images from magazines, which she amalgamates to create figures that are both personal and universal. “My work is not a question of delivering a ‘beautiful body’ subjected to canonical rules of plastic success, but a fashion world that is a way of expressing oneself with one’s body.”

In his dark, intricate sculptures, Dan Lane aka Mechanica twists natural forms through mechanical intervention, presenting an industrial version of life. One of his greatest sources of inspiration is the sculptures found in churches and cathedrals around the world. In particular, he enjoys the presence and mood of over-the-top Baroque styling, such as that by the Italian sculptor and architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini. He seeks to incorporate this style within his own work, creating a strong focal point whilst exploring the concept of dark yet beautiful art. “I wanted to do a take on the world famous and very recognisable LOVE and HOPE sculptures by Robert Indiana. To me these sculpture represent everything that is amazing in this world, they are big, bold, and beautiful and the message is clear, until you start peeling back the facade…” DAN/LANE

D13EGO
D13EGO is an Italian-born painter based in London. His comic book inspired paintings combine pop art and street art aesthetics while commenting on the commercialism and consumerism of Western culture. Quoting the pop art father Roy Lichtenstein amongst his major inspirations, D13ego describes his art as Urban Pop. His “Badass Girl Collection” was born from the love of retro comics, street art techniques, elements of pop art and a good dose of irony. First created as a series of graffiti on the streets of London, it eventually found its way to canvas and galleries in 2017. “My technique consists of painstakingly hand-cutting layers upon layers of stencils (sometimes up to 30) which I then spray paint on canvas or wood panels. The final effect spans from super-realistic to pure street, from portrait to collage- like optical illusions.”

Described as the ‘pop artist of these times’, Pakpoom Silaphan examines notions of globalisation and mass consumerism through mixed media and collage pieces. Silaphan primarily uses found-objects such as old metal advertising signs collected during his years living in Thailand, as his canvas. Also using vintage wooden Pepsi and Coca-Cola crates, reminiscent of Warholʼs Brillo Box installations. He collages and paints over these branded advertising signs and crates, implying the artist’s identity is a recognised global brand itself. “The influence of living in a different culture inspires much of my work. I think multicultural societies are as complex as an unfit jigsaw, but offer many opportunities creatively. I like to work with themes from everyday life and popular culture, both for my subject matter and my media as well.” PAKPOOM/SILAPHAN

Frédéric’s passion for honesty within his pieces is reflected by his choice of medium. He chooses to work with steel due to its raw, primal quality. The light and shadows play an essential role in his art, as the light animates the metal and plays with it, changing the colour and giving the impression of constant evolvement, movement and life. “There are always three elements to my work: the metal symbolizing Mother Earth and our foundations, the stylized figurative shapes which represent the spiritual realm and the light and shadows which evoke movement and change. Although the metal itself is static, its surface and colour change in response to how it is lit, and gives the impression that the work itself is also moving and evolving.” Frédéric/DATY
