THE DEFENSE REPORT

OCTOBER 2023

air, and other weather conditions. In some cases, this fear could be extremely life-limiting.

Every year, when Halloween rolls around, we play on our fears. We enjoy haunted houses, corn mazes, spooky decorations, and scary costumes. If you’re brave enough, you may even watch a few spine- tingling horror movies to really embrace the season. But here’s the thing about Halloween-induced fears — they are short-lived. Other fears, however, can lurk around in the shadows. Fear is a powerful universal human emotion acting as a protective mechanism and a limiting force. It triggers our fight-or-flight response, preparing us to face danger or escape from it. However, fear can also hold us back and prevent personal growth and potential. To overcome our fears, it’s important to address them head-on and learn from them. Because fears challenge our comfort zones, we cannot allow them to hide in the shadows — instead, we must acknowledge them, identify the source, educate ourselves about them, and set achievable goals to move past them. In the spirit of Halloween and spooky events and attractions, here’s a list of some of the rarest (and most intriguing) fears you’ve likely never heard about! ARACHIBUTYROPHOBIA (FEAR OF PEANUT BUTTER STICKING TO THE ROOF OF YOUR MOUTH) For some, this is a terrifying phenomenon. Some people will avoid peanut butter altogether or eat it in tiny portions to avoid ever winding up with any stuck to the roof of their mouths. So much for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! ANEMOPHOBIA (FEAR OF AIR) Anemophobia isn’t necessarily the fear of air itself. This state can include being intimidated by drafts, windy conditions, swallowing BEYOND SPOOKY DISCOVER THE STRANGEST FEARS THAT HAUNT SOME SOULS

PLUTOPHOBIA (FEAR OF MONEY) While we all likely wish we had more money, it’s tough to believe that some people actually fear it — but they do! In some cases, these individuals fear wealthy people, or they are afraid of becoming wealthy and go to great lengths to sabotage their careers or chances of making more. CHROMETOPHOBIA (FEAR OF SPENDING MONEY) On the flip side, other people fear spending money. These individuals will do anything in their power to avoid paying for items and services, and in some cases, this can greatly affect their social and personal lives. In more serious instances, they will experience panic and anxiety attacks and avoid going out, taking vacations, or engaging in activities they enjoy. PHOBOPHOBIA (FEAR OF PHOBIAS) Yes, it’s a thing. Some people are actually afraid of the potential of developing a phobia. More specifically, people are terrified they will one day develop a fear of something they love or something that will greatly affect their current lifestyle. HIPPOPOTOMONSTROSESQUIPPEDALIOPHOBIA (FEAR OF LONG WORDS) The name says it all! Some people actually feel anxious or even intimidated by long words. This fear often originates when individuals have trouble pronouncing long words and experience embarrassment or shame. HELIPHOBIA (FEAR OF SUNLIGHT) With heliphobia, some people are afraid of bright lights, but others genuinely fear being in the sun’s rays, even though exposure to sunlight is impossible to avoid. Most of the fear centers around the damage UV rays can cause.

Now you know! We wish you and your family a happy, fun, and spooky Halloween (and a good scare or two)! –Jim Yeargan

LAUGH IT OFF

STRICTER STANDARDS, SAFER ROADS GEORGIA’S COMMERCIAL DUI LAW EXPLAINED

In the state of Georgia, commercial truck and bus operators rely on their commercial driver’s licenses (CDL) to sustain their careers. Just the thought of being charged with or convicted of a commercial DUI can send shivers down any driver’s spine, as it threatens their CDL and their financial security. GEORGIA’S COMMERCIAL DUI LAW According to section 40-6-391 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, any driver operating a vehicle on public roads with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher can be arrested and charged with DUI. However, the legal threshold for those piloting commercial vehicles is significantly lower. Georgia law and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) enforce that anyone operating a commercial vehicle with a BAC of 0.04% or more will be arrested for a commercial DUI. This stricter limit is enforced because of the increased liability commercial drivers have. Imagine the potential devastation that an impaired bus driver could cause with passengers on board. Similarly, an intoxicated truck driver could be transporting flammable cargo, and if they were to cause an accident, the destruction could be haunting. WHY CHOOSE YEARGAN & KERT FOR YOUR COMMERCIAL DUI DEFENSE? Our experienced team at Yeargan & Kert is here to provide clear guidance on your legal options. Personalized Vacations With AI

YOUR SECRET TO THE PERFECT ITINERARY AI-ENHANCED TRAVEL:

The feeling of excitement for an upcoming vacation can quickly turn into one of stress. After you purchase your ticket or plan your travel, you may feel so burnt out that scheduling day-to-day activities for said vacation feels impossible. Thankfully, helping you create an itinerary is where AI thrives. SO, HOW DO YOU USE AI TO HELP YOU PLAN A TRIP? The first step is to craft a prompt that will get the best response possible. To do that, ask your preferred AI platform questions in your native language. AI understands many languages, and your grammar and syntax when asking questions matter when looking for perfect results. The more grammatically accurate your sentence is, the more artificial intelligence can help you.

Next, you need to be as specific as possible. Include all relevant information about your travel party when asking it to make plans for you, including if there are any kids, elderly travelers, pets, dietary restrictions, interests, or priorities because those factors will impact the results it gives you. You should also tell the AI software when it misunderstands you or gives you results that don’t match what you want. AI, like ChatGPT, uses large language models (LLMs) to learn from the person interacting with it, so the back-and-forth of providing feedback helps it pinpoint your specific interests to give you better information.

Rome with activities in less crowded areas that are accessible to elderly travelers.”

Finally, double-check any of the information AI gives you. Most platforms can only access information available before 2021, so certain attractions, restaurants, parks, or other itinerary items may not exist anymore. WANT TO GIVE AI TRAVEL A GO? ChatGPT isn’t the only site you can use to plan your itinerary! You can try any one of the following AI software specifically created for travel:

Tripnotes.ai

RoamAround.ai Curiosio.com
