THE DERBY (HORSE RACE) _______________________________________________ The Derby is a mini-tournament that will be held at approximately 2:45 PM on Thursday, September 15th. Every team is eligible to participate by it is not mandatory. The Derby is a scotch format (4 person team, alternate shot contest). Each team may select the order in which they hit the first four shots. From that point forward, each shot is struck alternately amongst the team. Once the teams have reached the putting surface (must be on the green), the closest team to the hole will putt first and putt out until all teams have completed a score for the given hole. Once each team has putted out they will immediately announce the score that they made for the hole. Each team, based upon designated groups, has been assigned a team number and a starting hole. The teams that will be eliminated on each hole will be determined by those who have the highest score for that hole. If there is a tie for the elimination spots, there will be a chip-off of the tying teams. The location of the chip-off will be determined by your golf staff group leader. The chip-offs will be conducted in the same alternate shot rotation.

Pinot Flight Group 1: Holes 15, 16, 18 Rose Flight Group 2: Holes 13, 15, 18 Chardonnay Flight Group 3: Holes 12, 13, 18

The order of teams who hit in the chip-off will be determined by their team numbers. (the lowest number going first). While one team is chipping, the other participants will turn their backs so as not to see the results of the individual’s shot. Once the shot has been struck, golf staff will mark balls with appropriate team ball markers. This procedure will be followed until all participants have chipped. The team that has chipped the farthest from the hole will be eliminated. In a case where there are multiple eliminations, the teams that are farthest from the hole will be eliminated until all required eliminations are complete. The survivors of the chip-off will then proceed to the next hole and continue the alternate shot rotation. Two teams from each flight will go to the final hole, #18. These six teams will be competing for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place. Because of the different flights competing, a team handicap will be used. If there is a tie for any of the 3 places it will be decided by a chip off on #18.

SPECIAL EVENTS__________________________________________________________

PARI-MUTUEL WAGERING In pari-mutuel wagering, you may bet on your team and/or any other team. To keep it simple, we only allow bets on Win, Place and Show (1st, 2nd, and 3rd). This means if you placed a bet on a team that finished 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, you would collect winnings.

All wagering is on Net scores for the entire field. Wagering is not by flight.

You may bet on a team for the first round, second round and overall. Most bets are placed across the board . That would be: Win (1st place), Place (2nd place) and Show (3rd place) on day one, day two and overall.

In this scenario, a minimum bet of $5.00 on a team would cost you $45.00 to bet that team across the board.

Day 1 - Win $5, Place $5, Show $5 = $15 Day 2 - Win $5, Place $5, Show $5 = $15 Overall = $15 Total bet amount owed $45

The amount of your winnings is determined by the number of bets on that team. If a winning team has a lot of bets, you might collect 2 or 3 times your bet. If you are the only bet on a winning team, it is not unusual to win 10 to 15 times your wager!

TOURNAMENT LOCAL RULES OF PLAY___________________________________ The Rules of Golf, effective January 2023, as approved by the USGA and The R & A Rules Limited govern play. The following Local Rules and Terms of the Competition are in effect for all play. Complete text of Rules and Model Local Rules may be found in the current edition of the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf. Unless otherwise noted, the penalty for breach of a Local Rule is the general penalty: Match play—Loss of Hole Stroke play—Two Strokes PROTECTION OF YOUNG TREES: Mandatory Relief. Young trees in the General Area identified by stakes are No Play Zones. If a player’s ball lies anywhere on the course, other than in a Penalty Area, and it lies on or touches such a tree, or such a tree interferes with the player’s stance or area of intended swing, the player MUST take relief under Rule 16.1f. OUT OF BOUNDS: Defined by the inside points, at ground level, of white stakes and fence posts and white ground lines connecting OB stakes or fence posts. When out of bounds is defined by a white line on the ground, the line itself is Out of Bounds. A ball coming to rest beyond the road between Holes #6 and #7, #12 and #13, and #15 and #16 is Out of Bounds, even if it comes to rest on another part of the course that is in bounds for other holes. The driving range to the left of Hole #1 is Out of Bounds. Clubhouse area behind hole #18 green is Out of Bounds, defined by the course side edge of the walkway and stone/stucco planter. DESIGNATED PRACTICE AREA: A player may practice in the designated practice area located between holes #10 and #11, designated by blue stakes, either before or after, but not during, their round. The designated practice area is in the General Area. The target greens located therein are Wrong Greens from which relief must be taken, Rule 13.1f.

IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS: The pump house to the left of Hole #9 fairway is an Immovable Obstruction.

EDGING GROOVE NEAR PUTTING GREEN : The edging grooves around the aprons or fringes of putting greens are ground under repair. If a player’s ball lies in of touches a groove or a groove interferes with the area of intended swing: (a)Ball in General Area: The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b. (b)Ball on the Putting Green: The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1d. But interference does not exist if the edging groove only interferes with the player’s stance. Model Local Rule F-19 IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS CLOSE TO PUTTING GREENS: (Ball and Immovable Obstruction both in the General Area Cut to Fairway Height or Less): Relief from interference by an Immovable Obstruction may be taken under Rule 16.1. In addition, if the player’s ball lies off the Putting Green in the General Area cut to fairway height or less, and an Immovable Obstruction in the General Area cut to fairway height or less located within two club-lengths of the Putting Green, and within two club lengths of the ball, intervenes on the player’s line of play, then the player may take relief under Rule 16.1. Model Local Rule F-5. PENALTY AREA: Dropping Zone on Hole #14 – As an additional option under Rule 17.1d, the player may use the Dropping Zone short of the yellow Penalty Area. The wooded area behind the putting green is Out of Bounds.

LATERAL DRAINAGE DITCHES: adjacent to homes are not Penalty Areas and are part of the General Area.
