THE DERBY (HORSE RACE) _______________________________________________ The Derby is a mini-tournament that will be held at approximately 2:45 PM on Thursday, September 15th. Every team is eligible to participate by it is not mandatory. The Derby is a scotch format (4 person team, alternate shot contest). Each team may select the order in which they hit the first four shots. From that point forward, each shot is struck alternately amongst the team. Once the teams have reached the putting surface (must be on the green), the closest team to the hole will putt first and putt out until all teams have completed a score for the given hole. Once each team has putted out they will immediately announce the score that they made for the hole. Each team, based upon designated groups, has been assigned a team number and a starting hole. The teams that will be eliminated on each hole will be determined by those who have the highest score for that hole. If there is a tie for the elimination spots, there will be a chip-off of the tying teams. The location of the chip-off will be determined by your golf staff group leader. The chip-offs will be conducted in the same alternate shot rotation.
Pinot Flight Group 1: Holes 15, 16, 18 Rose Flight Group 2: Holes 13, 15, 18 Chardonnay Flight Group 3: Holes 12, 13, 18
The order of teams who hit in the chip-off will be determined by their team numbers. (the lowest number going first). While one team is chipping, the other participants will turn their backs so as not to see the results of the individual’s shot. Once the shot has been struck, golf staff will mark balls with appropriate team ball markers. This procedure will be followed until all participants have chipped. The team that has chipped the farthest from the hole will be eliminated. In a case where there are multiple eliminations, the teams that are farthest from the hole will be eliminated until all required eliminations are complete. The survivors of the chip-off will then proceed to the next hole and continue the alternate shot rotation. Two teams from each flight will go to the final hole, #18. These six teams will be competing for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place. Because of the different flights competing, a team handicap will be used. If there is a tie for any of the 3 places it will be decided by a chip off on #18.
