THE LAKEWOOD ESTATE

RESIDENTIAL HISTORICAL RENOVATION / RESTORATION

2024 NARI CONTRACTOR OF THE YEAR AWARDS

THE LAKEWOOD ESTATE

Welcome to the Lakewood Estate, an American French Tudor home built in 1926. The house had seen better days as years of neglect had taken their toll. In 2022, the house was put up for sale, deemed to be a mere “tear down” for its lot value. However, fate had other plans for the Lakewood Estate. It was discovered by a semi- retired couple who saw beyond its dilapidated state and immediately recognized it as their future home.

Original stained glass panels in the front entry door, the windows, the cabinets and the interior doors were maintained and painted.

LIVING ROOM

Our clients frequently host dinner parties and entertain guests. So it was crucial to design an open space that fostered mingling and conversation among visitors. The classic Living Room architecture provides picturesque views of the newly created chef's kitchen and updated sunroom.

By removing a wall between the Living Room and a poorly placed Den, we've transformed the Den space into the perfect chef’s kitchen for our clients' active hosting lifestyle. The original wood floors were repaired and refinished, ensuring a seamless transition between the rooms.

The original fireplace surround and mantle, featuring rare Rookwood Dutch Girl accent tiles and Rookwood Faience art pottery tile from the early 19th century, were preserved and refreshed.

THE HALLWAY

At the end of the hallway (as seen from the front entry), a recessed wall niche has been crafted to display an early 19th century German Grandfather clock. The niche is highlighted by the gold flake wallpaper, while the black painted ceiling matching the clocks color, exudes an air of sophistication and luxury to the area.

In the last picture, you might have missed something incredible - a hall closet that has been converted into a stunning wine room. With black twin doors and gold floor-to-ceiling horizontal wine storage, it's the perfect place to showcase our clients’ wine collection. The background is made of semi-precious rosette slabs that are backlit by a custom LED panel, which illuminates the wine without adding heat to the room.

DINING ROOM

The Dining Room has been restored to its former glory with a touch of finesse. The walls have been painted with a dusty blue color that accentuates the bold color pops of pink and yellow. Through out the house, the original 15-light wavy glass French doors have been preserved, and the original door knobs and hardware have been meticulously restored.

The Old World Butler's Nook has been given a brand new look with the addition of bright pink furnishings. To contrast the dark crushed velvet lacquered walls, the original cabinetry was preserved and painted white. The space is now a vibrant reading nook that's perfect for relaxing.

The kitchen retains its original charm with its 1920's farmhouse sink and beautifully preserved cabinets, now freshly painted. With the addition of a laundry room that was once a nearby bath and a more open floor plan, this prep kitchen is truly a busy host's dream. The antique forged iron pot rack and 19th century French pine hutch provide the perfect finishing touches to the space.

A LADY’S AND A GENTLEMAN’S STUDY

Although they may be semi-retired, these homeowners are far from idle. They remain occupied with their consulting business and collecting hobbies. To cater to their busy schedules, separate and unique studies were created.

The bathroom that attaches to the Gentleman's study has been tastefully renovated with new cabinetry and plumbing fixtures, giving it a sophisticated touch.

Located in the hall next to the Gentleman's study, a small closet was repurposed to create a convenient Powder Bath. A beautiful marble vanity with a wall-mounted faucet was designed specifically for guests and clients.

SUNROOM

The Kitchen is attached to a dramatic sunroom with black terrazzo flooring. The ceiling was vaulted to reveal a hidden stained glass window. Additionally, new steel gothic arched windows and doors were added to enhance the room's efficiency and overall appearance.

DURING

Originally an open air porch, the Sunroom underwent some changes during a previous remodel. It was enclosed with aluminum windows and sliding doors and opened up to the rest of the house. But the floor was still sloped, matching the exterior deck, for water drainage. To create a suitable interior room, we had to level the floor several inches. A full ceiling concealed a stained glass window located in the attic above the room. By vaulting the ceiling, we were able to unveil the window's beauty. Adding brick around the stained glass window finished the room, making it an attractive lounge and living space.

A private retreat on the second floor was a key selling point for our clients when they first purchased their home. However, after years of neglect, an update was desperately needed in all areas. By installing heated floors, a curbless shower, and reconfiguring the space to create a private water closet, we were able to provide our clients with the ultimate in comfort and style.
