grow in such confidence that whatsoever we ask Him, He will give it us. “Ask.” “Seek.” “Knock.” All the promises are “yea and in him, amen,” to those who call upon God. Don’t fail in getting what God has promised. Perhaps He seems a long time in answering your prayer. Days and months, and even years, have gone by ! You do not understand His silence! “Hath God forgotten to be gracious? Hath he in anger shut up his tender mer cies?” David thought so sometimes, but he came to the conclusion that it w^s his “own infirmity,” his want o f faith, that made him doubt so good a God. Go on trusting. “He that believeth in me shall never be ashamed”— that he has trusted Me! Your faith may be like the bruised feed, but God will not break it. It is only green and tender. Go on, and it will grow firmer. If you fall or fail, get up and begin again. The grace and tenderness of God will help you and comfort you till you grow stronger. “Unanswered yet? though when you first presented This one petition at the Father’s throne, It seemed you could not wait the time of asking, So urgent was your heart to make it known; Though years have passed since then, do not despair, The Lord will answer you sometime, somewhere.” —o— March 20—“Purifying their hearts by faith” (Acts 15:9). This is the only way in which our hearts can be purified. Many try the work themselves, but it is like washing our face with dirty hands! How easily we should get to the end of our journey did we take notice of all the orders. If we can get a clean heart, which is pure and holy, a perfect heart, which loves God with all the “heart, and mind, and soul, and strength,” only by faith, why do not we ask God for such a faith which will bring us straight through the short cut to Canaan, instead of the blind unbelief which brings us sore-footed all through the long and weary wilderness? Why don’t we do this? Because man likes to see instead of believe, he likes to experi ment and try his own little strength, so he begins to wash himself and make himself clean, putting away every evil thing from him. So far, so good, but you cannot reach the root by cutting off dead or evil branches. The heart is the root, the mainspring, o f our lives and actions, and to get it put right we must take it to God, leave it with 'Him, and believe He can and will do His own work. “’Twas most impossible o f all That here sin’s reign in me should cease; j- - v Yet shall it be, I know it shall: Jesus, I trust Thy faithfulness! If nothing is too hard for Thee, All things are possible to me.” —o— March 21 +-“ The Lord appeared to Solomon the second time” (1 Kings 9:2). There is always more grace “the second time.” Abraham realized this when God — C. Wesley.
