Most coats require a thorough pre-spotting but gentle cleaning, typically not in hot water as it causes issues with colors and embellishments. Wool coats and the older coats in your collection likely need dry cleaning. Cleaning your garments before the summer also removes any moth eggs that may be there. CLEAN YOUR CLOSET The space in which you store your garments also matters. It’s a good idea to clean your closet and drawers before storing clothes for the season. Humidity and direct sunlight can damage your garments. HOW TO STORE It’s best not to keep your coat in a plastic dry cleaning bag over the summer. Instead, you can opt for hangers with wide, round ends to preserve the shape of the shoulders. You can wrap your wool coat in light cotton fabric to keep it looking fresh and new.
