MADD SPOTLIGHT : The Landsverk Family

Ron and I were very honored to be featured in the Spotlight story in this issue of the MADD newsletter. We love talking about Brittney, our only child, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver at age 20. She was the love of our lives and we still have trouble believing she is gone – all because someone chose to drink, get high and drive. We miss her so very much. Even though our memory is a bit foggy, I do remember a victim services specialist from MADD (Amee) contacting us I believe as soon as the day of the crash. The car Brittney was a passenger in slid into a river and although the driver and 2 other passengers survived, Brittney’s body was swept away and was not recovered for 87 days. Amee was there for us during the search and recovery period. She also accompanied us to court appearances. She was also there for me when I spoke at my first MADD Victim Impact panel (VIP). Family and friends have been amazing by being so willing to donate to MADD and join us on “Team Brittney” for the Walk like MADD walk for many years to raise money for MADD. The money raised helps MADD to continue their work of helping victims, providing education and Public Service Announcements about the dangers of drinking and driving and preventing underage drinking. Losing your only child is the worst nightmare. We do not want this heartache to happen to anyone else. This is why we continue speaking and helping out at MADD VIPs and why I have taken the position as coordinator of the panels in Rice County. In loving memory of Brittney, we want to make a difference, one MADD panel at a time, to convince drivers not to drink and drive.

Sincerely, Ron and Kelly Landsverk
