Drone warfare
must target not only the lives of those others, or enemies that have to be destroyed in the name of life promotion.’ 7 However, I would argue that all ideals of modern sovereignty that are based upon a Westphalian conception are only of use in a non-existent reality where conflict is not prevalent. This is a hopeful yet impossible standpoint from which to view the use of drones and, therefore, the use of drones is justified in accordance with a shift in the western viewpoint on conflict prevention, towards guaranteeing the security of human life. The possible encroachment on international sovereignty is a small price to pay for a realization of counterterrorism. In conclusion, while the complexity of drone warfare creates arguments against their use, I believe they herald a new age of warfare. It is analogous to previous developments in technology: trench warfare was superseded by the arrival of mustard gas, tanks, and airplanes. Drones offer a new dimension to war which will be explored over the coming decades. Regarding the possible future issues of the erosion of human agency in death, I see any issues to be representative of the direction of human evolution, with no ethical difference between drones or currently accepted warfare technologies.
