Drysdale scholarships to assist tourism and hospitality professionals to share their skills
A Drysdale scholarship program will enable tourism and hospitality industry professionals to share their skills with the next generation. Drysdale is offering up to 10 scholarships to tourism and hospitality professionals to give them the skills to work as a vocational trainer. Drysdale Interim CEO, Lisa Punshon, said the Drysdale Industry Trainer Scholarship Program reflected work taking place at Drysdale to increase industry involvement in training. “There are many talented people working in the tourism and hospitality industry who have a wealth of knowledge and skills to share. “These scholarships will allow them to gain formal qualifications to work as a trainer in a vocational training environment and share their skills and knowledge with Drysdale students, as well as their industry colleagues,” Ms Punshon said. Scholarship recipients can undertake qualifications including Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, skills sets to work as an enterprise trainer or assessor or upgrade superseded qualifications. Scholarships will be awarded to people from a range of areas including pre-trade and commercial cookery, accommodation services, nature-based tourism, cellar door and vineyards, and events. “Once trained, scholarship recipients will be eligible to work as fixed term or sessional teachers at Drysdale, giving Drysdale students access to trainers from a range of industry areas.
“Recipients will also receive mentoring support to assist them in gaining their qualification.” It is the second time the scholarships had been offered, with 11 industry professionals awarded scholarships in 2018. The scholarships are part of the State Government’s $3.2 million to make Drysdale a Centre of Excellence. “These scholarships are part of the revitalisation of Drysdale to ensure it is providing a modern, industry-focused approach to tourism and hospitality training,” Ms Punshon said. Applications for scholarships open on Monday 27 May and close on Friday 14 June. Applicants must be able to demonstrate broad industry knowledge and experience in their proposed teaching area and must be able to demonstrate industry support for their application.
