M ore than 30 years ago, Bob Couch founded INPRO Technologies to supply industrial equipment solutions, including UV curing equipment , to rapidly cure coatings, inks and adhesives.

The father-sons team then developed custom UV solutions with equipment fully integrated into their customers’ lines. Now that his sons Eric Couch, president, and Mike Couch, vice president, have taken over, they continue to implement the same values of service, curiosity and innovation. Case in point, in March 2020, at the start of pandemic-related confusion in the U.S., INPRO collaborated with nonprofit organization MITRE Corporation, which partners with federal, state and local governments as well as industry and academia, in pursuit of public interest solutions. The goal was “to bring a UV disinfection solution to the problem of limited PPE — specifically N95 respirators — at hospitals fighting outbreaks of COVID-19,” explained Eric. “In a matter of days, INPRO used their knowledge of industrial UV sources to design and build a disinfection system that could be deployed to and operated at a
health care facility so that N95s could be reused safely — extending the dwindling supplies.” Ultimately, the pandemic forced the company to branch out and discover different services from its industrial background, and while the adaptations were unlike anything they’d ever done before, they were necessary. “The pandemic created a moral obligation to extend our expertise toward the effort of protecting health care workers,” Eric said, and consequently created a new network of partners in their industry. “INPRO is now offering solutions to help people return to work and school more safely.” They’re achieving this with UV surface disinfectants and air disinfectants. Fortunately, INPRO’s St. John Properties location in Frederick, Maryland, helped make all these innovations possible. “Being in the Delmarva area, we found several serendipitous resources and strategic relationships as we continued to develop our decontamination solution,”
said Eric. “With the proximity to Fort Detrick, the International Ultraviolet Association, and the FDA, we are seeing that this region is going to be the ‘Silicon Valley’ of the burgeoning world of UVGI (Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation).” That, combined with their network of nearby fabrication partners and suppliers, allows for quick turnarounds. INPRO has been at the Westview Business Park location for nearly 20 years and was able to create a versatile space with offices, a laboratory area and light manufacturing, making it perfect for prototyping and assembly, Eric said. The company first decided to lease with St. John as INPRO began to grow and needed new spaces and functions. “St. John’s has helped us make the most of our space as we grew,” said Eric. “They have always been reliable in their
maintenance of our facilities and business park. We will continue to look to their support as our company grows beyond our current facility.”
