gether in lifting the iron. (Place one alongside of the other, with the prongs of each resting on the iron.) See, after having been close to the cross and working together, they lift the iron easily. When Christians stay close -to Christ, love each other and work together, they can do things which otherwise would be impossible for them to accomplish. Christians today are not the only ones who have been troubled with too little love, for we are told that Christ once rebuked John and James for their lack of love. “But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not whkt manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to de stroy men’s lives, but to save them” (Luke 9:55,56). Second Week M ike and S am S pike

ends of each of these wires to separate spikes with solder. Before fastening the wires to the spikes, bore a hole in the end of each stick and slip over each spike. The sticks will serve as. nonconducting handles. Fasten the red cross to the outside of the dish at about the middle of one side. Cover the windows of the church with richly colored paper, such as is found in en velope linings. Place the light bulb back of the church. Fill the glass dish half full of water. Place one of the spikes in each end of the dish. If the light bulb in the church fails to give a dim light, sprinkle salt in the water gradually until it does. This test should be made beforehand.) Lesson: These spikes are so much like Christians that I have named them Sam and Mike. Christians help to keep the light of the Gospel shining in the church. The light in this church is very dim, and the reason for it is that Sam and Mike are far apart. Neither of them is very near to Christ. Perhaps they have had a quarrel. Sam begins to read his Bible and to pray more than he has heretofore; he realizes that he is not as near to Christ and his brother as he should be, so he moves closer. Notice, the light in the church is growing bright er. When Sam reaches the cross, the light is much brighter, but it still is not as bright as it should be. Mike sees how much good it has done for Sam to draw close to Christ, so he decides to do the same thing. The light is rapidly growing brighter. As a Christian draws near to Christ, he gets nearer to other Christians as well. The result of these two spikes’ get ting closer together reminds us of the words of Christ. “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35).

Objects: Two magnets, a piece of iron and a red cardboard cross. (The iron should be too large for one mag net to lift, but small enough for the two to lift when working together. Test and mark the negative and posi tive poles on each. This can be deter mined by noticing whether they push or pull each other.) Lesson: (Make sure that the posi tive poles of each m a g n e t face each other.) These magnets have a mysterious drawing power under cer tain circumstances; but notice how they push each other away. They do not care much for each other. They remind us of some Christians who do not obey the command of the Bible to love one another. ‘‘This command ment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also” (John 4:21). You will notice that the mag nets are weak, unable to lift this piece of iron. When Christians are weak, and do not love each other, it is because they are too far away from Christ. We will move the magnets close to the cross and see what happens. (While bringing them near the cross, turn one over, causing the poles to change positions.) They now jump toward each other. We shall see how they work to

Objects: An electric light cord about 6 feet long, two spikes, two sticks, 1 inch square by seven inches long, a long glass dish such as is used in defrosting an electric refrigerator, a red cross cut from cardboard about 10 inches high, and the side view of a church cut from cardboard. (Cut one of the wires in the light cord. Fasten a new wire about 3 feet long to the current end, and another the same length to the light end of the cut wire.'Tape the joints. Fasten the
