■ These 559 centres between them account for 1,011 pools. ■ The top 10 operators therefore account for 35% of all public centres with pools, and 38% of all pools.

■ Between them, the top 10 public sector operators now manage 559 centres with pools; numbers have remained fairly stable, rising by just nine centres (+1.6%) in the last 12 months.

■ GLL operates four more centres with pools in 2024 than in 2023. (See interview, page 44.) ■ Everyone Active (SLM) – the only other public sector operator to operate more than 100 centres with pools – has gained 10 centres with a pool since 2023. This is the biggest growth of any public sector operator. (See interview, page 54.) ■ Freedom Leisure (+5), Parkwood Leisure (+3) and Wiltshire Council (+1) are the only other top 10 public sector operators to operate more pools in 2024 than in 2023.

■ High Life Highland and Halo Leisure operate the same number of centres with a pool in 2024 as in 2023. ■ Fusion Lifestyle, Places Leisure (see interview, page 62) and Serco Leisure have fewer centres with pools in 2024 than in 2023 (-8, -5 and -1 respectively).

■ GLL remains the UK’s leading public sector pool operator by number of centres with a swimming pool (140) – see interview, page 44. ■ Everyone Active (SLM), with 136 centres open at the end of March 2024, remains in second place. (See interview, page 54.) ■ Freedom Leisure completes the top three, operating 73 centres with a pool.

■ Between them, these top three operators account for 22% of all UK public sector centres with a pool. ■ The top 10 operators for 2024 are the same as in 2023, with one change: Halo Leisure replaces Leeds City Council to enter the top 10 in 10th place. ■ The average pay-per-swim fee across these top 10 operators is £6.07, passing £6 for the first time.
