TRANSPORTATION HISTORY Interstate Highway System Turns 70 The Federal Highway Administration recently marked the 70th anniversary of the Interstate Highway System, established under President Dwight D. Eisenhower on June 29, 1956. At the event, FHWA Administrator Sean McMaster launched “Reimagining America’s Interstates,” an initiative collecting pub- lic input on how to improve the nation’s highway infrastructure.
