vealed the Holy Spirit. To build up, a case out of emotional experience will lead only to chaos and conffu- sion. The Holy Spirit mainly operates within the sphere of God's redemp tive program. In the Old Testament there are 88 distinct references to Him as a person. He is referred to in 22 of the 39 books of the Old Testament. We have become accustomed to think of the Holy Spirit as related almost exclusively to the believer in his salvation and sanctification. These are phases of His wonderful ministry and should have proper emphasis. At the very beginning of the Bible, however, we discover that the Spirit's presence was noted. It is in Genesis 1:2 where we read that "The Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters." Be fore that the earth was waste and in darkness. Between the first two verses of the Bible there was evi- dentally some great catastrophe which overtook the original crea tion. How long a time elapsed we are not informed. So, the first ref erence to the Spirit shows Him sharing creation, as well as re-cre ation. He is certainly the Spirit of order, beauty, and form. Wherever He works there is harmony, loveli ness, and an orderly array. Confu sion, disorder, and ugliness are the products of sin. In Job 26:13 we read that "By His Spirit He hath garnished the heav ens." We could translate that as meaning that "The heavens were made beautiful!" Psalms 33:6 fur ther reminds us, "By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, and all th heost of them by the Breath of His mouth." (We have capitalized "breath" since it is the word for "Spirit.")
