REAPING THE REWARDS OF TRUE STEWARDSHIP New Year, New Blessings
As the holidays come to a close and the new year begins, we look forward to what might come about in the future. I was talking with a client back in November who expressed his thanks and described the blessings he gained from having us as his family’s advisor. Not only had we been helping him and his wife, but his two children and other family members had become our clients as well. As our conversation came to a close, he expressed his intention to pray for me and our firm. I felt a sense of wonderment at the fact that we have such great clients. So many of you have expressed your thankfulness for the services we provide. The blessings have been all ours. I have been surprised when talking to other financial firms to learn that they don’t have this type of relationship — that their clients aren’t wishing them well in the future or offering their prayers. You don’t get rewards like that by not giving. Every person on our team is here to help you. I’ve heard feedback from clients so many times that when they call or come in, the person who assisted them made them feel much better when they left the office than when they came in. Our clients say this is a testament to me, but it is actually a testament to much greater things. It is a testament to our clients. Each and every one of our team members wants to excel
to earn your appreciation and thankfulness. We want you to know that without you, we would not be here. I want to share a blessing that may strike you as a little odd, but I’m pleased to share it. I once had two clients in their 80s. This couple had been with us for about five or six years when I was informed the husband needed to go into a long-term care facility. Instead of calling their two children, the wife called me and asked if I would help take him to the new arrangement, where he could get better care. Three months later, I got another call: The wife needed to go to the long-term care facility as well. Two members of our team and I helped move their important personal effects into a nursing care facility. Every year since then, they send us a card thanking us for being there for them. That might not be surprising, except the holiday they chose was Father’s Day. They seemed to regard me as the father of wisdom for their financial affairs. That blessing has stuck with me through the years. Their kids are still clients of our firm. We are committed to approaching our mission this way — to assisting our clients with every aspect of their lives. If we miss a step — say there is a crack in the financial plan and it fails — that failure doesn’t affect only our client. It affects the future of the family. If we ever miss a step or stumble, we
always make sure the next client will never experience the same stumble in the future.
As 2025 begins, we wish you a happy new year and many blessings for you and your family. We don’t know if this will be a year of great investment returns. We can’t know whether we will face medical or health conditions or if we will face such setbacks as a war or a tax increase. We don’t know what the future holds. But we do know that whatever comes our way, we will be in it together, holding each other’s hand, praying for each other’s families, and sharing each other’s sorrows. If you haven’t had an opportunity to share what you know about Mattson Financial Services with those you love, including your children or even your grandchildren, now is the time to do so. Let’s make sure your financial plan is completely free of cracks in the future!

You will want to be comfortable driving and parking your new mobile vacation headquarters, even if you mostly envision using it when it’s stationary.
THE TRUTH ABOUT TUCKING IN SLEEP’S SURPRISING PERKS AND PITFALLS
It’s common knowledge that sleep does a body good, but how much slumber affects our overall health may surprise you. Here are three of the most unexpected ways sleep impacts our everyday lives. LESS PILLOW TIME EQUALS MORE PAIN If you’re having trouble sleeping due to chronic pain, you may have unwittingly trapped yourself in a cycle that’s wreaking havoc on your body. A poll by the National Sleep Foundation revealed that two-thirds of respondents who noted experiencing persistent physical discomfort weren’t getting enough sleep at night. Additionally, a University of California, Berkeley study of 24 young adults determined that reduced sleep can disrupt the brain’s
mechanisms for recognizing pain signals and relieving affected area(s). While losing sleep due to pain may be a classic chicken-or-the-egg scenario, it’s no secret that getting a proper night’s sleep is essential for restoring our bodies to proper health. SLEEP DEPRIVATION IS A DIET DESTROYER Are you having trouble losing weight? Cutting calories likely won’t help you achieve your goal if you’re cutting your sleep hours at the same time. Sleep deprivation negatively affects two of our body’s most important hormones: leptin and ghrelin. Leptin informs our brain when we’re full, while ghrelin lets it know when we’re hungry. The less we sleep, the longer we’re awake — and the more time ghrelin has to
make us think about snacking. A lack of sleep may also make you feel too tired to hit the gym, causing you to lose out on another opportunity to keep your diet on course. THE SLUMBER-SUPPRESSING MUTATION Do you jump out of bed most mornings after sleeping six or fewer hours? You may be powered by a mutation in your family’s genetics. People who inherited a rare variation of the ADRB1 gene, which affects the coding of receptors that influence a person’s sleep-wake cycle, are likelier to start the day feeling fine despite having a shorter night’s rest than most people. That’s right — being a morning person may be built into your DNA!
