+ C42 tied as the 4 th top weaning weight bull of his crop! C42 is a long, bigger framed stout bull with a leg on all four corners. This calm bull has got a good quarter and muscle. He is likely best suited for use on cows. + C42 has the 3 rd best Hair Shed (HS) EPD among the yearlings selling – an important trait for those of us grazing fescue! And you can tell too, he is a slick haired bull. He also offers one of the top Heifer Pregnancy EPDs in the bulls. + Dam V11 is a low birth weight, heavy milking cow with ideal teat size. Her fertility is displayed by her 355 day calving interval. Her daughter that works for Jonathan Ernst tied as the 13 th top weaning weight heifer of her crop. + V11 is an 18 th consecutive generation bred, born and raised Hoover cow! This cow line has the most consecutive generations of cows of any line in the herd! Between C42’s 3 rd and 8 th generation dams, there are five Pathfinder dams as you trace down the dam’s cow line – this is an extremely rare occurrence to have 5 out of 6 dams in a row earn the honor, and certainly a testament to their fertility and productivity! + Grandam M3, now owned by Bo Slovek in South Dakota, put 7 replacement daughters in the Hoover herd. M3’s greatest claim to fame was producing the $39,000 top-selling bull of our 2018 sale. + Pathfinder great grandam H118 has done a whale of a job. At 12 years of age, she raised the #1 weaning weight heifer of the entire crop at 798 pounds! How can we ask for more? Her 7 progeny to come to auction averaged over $12,000 – a whopping feat for a cow this age!

+ C57 is a good bull with really nice thickness, length, and a slick hair coat. + Look at the nice CED to WW spread on this bull! Use him on heifers if you like. He has a little different pedigree for many of our repeat customers. + Dam S273 is a moderate birth weight cow with a 359 day calving interval. Her bull:heifer ratio is not very good for us keeping replacement daughters – it is 5:1! The only daughter she has given birth to settled first service AI and will calve at Hoover Angus for the first time this spring. At least we have one! + S273’s sons work for Craig & Karri Miller, a photo feature and the 8 th top weaning weight bull of his crop, Pat Hardy and David Waddell – all repeat customers. + Pathfinder grandam P191 is still going strong and will turn 10 years old after our sale. She has a 364 day calving interval, indicative of her excellent fertility. + P191’s progeny work for Mark Lents, Dusty Goodman, and Todd Kruse. + Great grandam L170 raised several top weaning weight calves of their respective crops, as well as two progeny that were among the top 5 IMF scanning bulls or heifers of their crop.
John Kiburz 1925-2024
John Allen Kiburz was born November 26, 1925, to Ike and Gladys Kiburz. John graduated from Orient Macksburg School, then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from Drake University on May 30, 1949, and on the same day, married Barbara Hoover. The couple became schoolteachers in Arispe, Iowa, just 7 miles from where Barb’s family homesteaded in 1856. Teaching allowed John to save up enough money to begin his true passion – farming. John and Barb raised two daughters on the farm, Joy and Judy.
John & Barb became partners with her parents, Walt & Sadye Hoover, in Hoover Angus Farm and later took over the family business. John was able to significantly expand Hoover Angus by timely, wise investments in land and cattle. John witnessed during his lifetime how Hoover Angus grew from a small herd to one of international prominence, where semen from Hoover-bred bulls is utilized on 4 continents. Hallmark bulls of the Hoover program during John’s lifetime were Hoover Dam and Hoover No Doubt. John’s “never want to retire” attitude and perseverance kept him going and active on the farm. John mowed hay, ran the feedwagon, and dispensed advice to the crew well
into his 90’s. He successfully integrated the 3 rd and 4 th generations of the Hoover Angus family to carry on the business. John passed away on January 8, 2024 at 98 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years, Barb; his brother Ken Kiburz; and nephew Kurt Kiburz. John is survived by his daughters Joy (David) McFarland and Judy Harrison; granddaughter Landi (Andrew) Livingston; and his great grandkids Gwen and Ty Livingston.
