+ C36 is a wide-based, thick, proud bull that walks sound as a cat. + C36 offers the 2 nd highest CED EPD among all bulls selling – use him safely on heifers if you like! He also has the 4 th top Ribeye EPD! + Pathfinder dam V124 is an excellent uddered cow with a 358 day calving interval – showcasing her fertility. She is certainly a low birth weight cow whose calves have rapid growth. She ties as the herd’s 2 nd top cow for high yearling ratios on her progeny! + V124’s first daughter was a photo feature open heifer selling to Dan Vosika. She was the 9 th top weaning weight heifer of her crop and the #1 YW heifer of our sale open heifers. Her next daughter, the 12 th top weaning weight heifer of her crop, settled first service AI and is going into our replacement herd this spring. + Please read about Pathfinder great grandam J162 in the footnote of Lot 37.
+ C68 is a wide based, level topped, long bodied bull with a little different pedigree for our repeat customers. He’s a real nice footed bull. + C68 ties as the 3 rd top CED EPD bull to sell! Genomics pegs him very favorable for calving ease despite a little larger birth weight himself. I would recommend him for larger framed heifers or cows. + Dam S183 has a 363 day calving interval on her 6 calves. Progeny work for Stacy Claiser & Chad Kelley, Amanda Williams, Lane Stortenbecker and BJ and Wyatt Thompson. S183 has one beautiful daughter in the herd. + Grandam N33 had a 362 day calving interval that included two sets of twins. She was a fertile gal that bred right back after having twins! Taylor Ridge and Bo Slovek own N33’s progeny that have sold through our sales. + Pathfinder great grandam B96 ended her career with 10-107 WR and a 356 day calving interval on her 11 pregnancies. One Pathfinder daughter works in the herd. Several of her progeny were top weaning weight calves, photo features, and top- selling animals in our sales towards the beginning of the century.

+ C204 has extra length to add pounds at weaning time. He is super long, extended through his front and has a nice clean sheath. C204 offers a little more frame than most Empire progeny. Use him on heifers or cows. + C204 has the #1 $Maternal and #1 $C of all animals selling and ties as the 3 rd top Docility EPD bull! Read more about $Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) on page 20. C204’s very high $M indicates he is an excellent choice to retain daughters from, as they should excel in the 9 traits included in this profitability index. + C204 is backed by 6 consecutive generations of Pathfinder dams! Less than 1% of current Angus dams earn this honor in any given year! Definitely some cow power here! + Dam T116 has a 366 day calving interval. Her progeny work for Brad Ayers (the 7 th top weaning weight bull of his crop), Jason Otto, Stan & Jon Becker, and Jonathan Ernst. + T116 weaned at 770 pounds to be the 4 th top weaning weight heifer of her crop. She then scanned a big 12.4” ribeye! + T116 is an easy going cow, and is one of the top 15 Hoover-owned females for Docility EPD! + Pathfinder grandam J162 had a successful career with a 363 day calving interval on her 8 calves and a superior 8-107 WR! She had an excellent udder. She is one of the few non-donor cows in the herd to have two Pathfinder daughters! + J162’s progeny work for Steve McFarland, Tim Schmidt, Larry Moffat, Tom McDonald and Bill Archer. + J162 is found in the pedigrees of Lots 33-37.

+ C74 is a thick, eye-catching, stylish bull with a small head appropriate for calving ease. With his super low birth weight mother, he is easy to recommend for heifers. + Dam P76 will turn 10 years old the day after our sale, and she is still doing great with a 362 day calving interval on her 8 progeny! Her internal time clock must be pretty good, because every single year she has calved between February 1 and February 23 without fertility-enhancing protocols. Her progeny work for Larson Angus Cattle Co., Jacob Hans, Curt Beane, and Brandon Taglauer. + Grandam G24 was a highly productive Pathfinder cow. Starting with G24 and tracing down the dam’s side of this pedigree, there are 4 consecutive generations of Pathfinder cows, an extremely rare find! Only about ½ of 1% of Angus cows in America earn the Pathfinder designation in any given year. These Blackbirds will be remembered for bringing in one of the best calves every single year! + Pathfinder great grandam X78 recorded 10-95 BWR, 10-109 WR, 10-106 YR and a 361 day calving interval. Her 7 sons to come to auction (6 features) averaged $8400 – a tremendous price for a 2000 model cow! Four sons topped the $10,000 mark. I would put her among the top 10 cows ever in production at Hoover Angus!
$Beef Value ($B) and $Combined Value ($C) As a review of $B, this is a terminal index, comprising of the traits YW, DMI (Dry Matter Intake), Marbling, CW (Carcass Weight), RE (Ribeye), and Fat. $B is designed for herds that send all of their calves (male and female) to the feedyard, retain ownership, and hang them on a quality-based carcass-merit grid. $C attempts to characterize cattle by combining maternal ($M) and terminal ($B) traits into one index. However, $C is heavily weighted towards the “terminal” traits found in $B. $C has a .95 correlation to $B, leaving little room for the impact of the maternal traits in this index. Read more about $M on page 20.
