+ C85 is a big hipped, stout bull that should have been a photo feature! He’s super thick and long as a train! His small head will aid in calving ease – I would recommend him for large framed, well-developed heifers or cows. + Dam A47 was one of the first heifers to calve last year, and the AAA does not include twins in a cow’s birth, wean, and yearling ratios, so her boxes above are empty. A47 raised both twins for a while until we had a cow available to graft C85’s twin sister onto. + A47 had nice performance data: BW 79 pounds, WW 698 lbs., WR 102, YW 984 lbs., YR 105, IMF 4.04, ratio 104, ribeye 12.0”, ratio 117. + Grandam L102 has a 361 day calving interval – what a success she has been! L102 earned Pathfinder honors for her fertility and strong progeny performance, yet she did this with significantly below average birth weights on her progeny! L102 is a perfect uddered, nice mannered cow that gets the job done every year! + L102’s progeny work for Pat Hardy, Brad Vogel, Kirk Egbert, Strasburg Angus, Mickey Angus, Amonett’s Farms and Crooked Creek Angus. Several of these progeny were among the top weaning weight calves of their respective crops. + Fourth generation dam E298 was the #1 weaning weight, 2 nd top yearling weight heifer of her crop! E298 has produced 6 daughter descendants that have earned Pathfinder status! $Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) $M is the first attempt at a truly maternal index from the American Angus Association. $M is intended for producers who retain their own replacement females and sell the rest of their cull female and all male progeny as feeder calves. It predicts profitability differences from conception to weaning. It considers income (like selling feeder calves) and expenses (such cow keeping costs) in its calculation. Higher values are more favorable. $M encompasses the following EPD traits: • CED (Calving Ease Direct) • CEM (Calving Ease Maternal) • WW (Weaning Weight) • Milk • HP (Heifer Pregnancy) • MW (Mature Cow Weight) • Docility • Claw Shape • Foot Angle Mature Weight (MW) is by far the largest component in the $M index, even substantially larger than WW, and higher MW values cut deeply into an animal’s $M Value (the rationale is that larger cows eat more feed, thus increasing their keeping cost). Heifer Pregnancy follows MW and WW in the weighting of traits in $M, and the remaining traits, CED, CEM, Milk, Doc, Claw and Angle each play a fairly minor role in the calculation of $M. More work is being done by the AAA to represent other traits of significant economic importance for future inclusion in $M, such as longevity and cow herd fertility, the two most economically important traits in a cow herd. Sixty-three Hoover-owned females rank in or above the best 1% of the breed for $M; 28% of all Hoover females rank in the best 1-5% of the breed for this index!

+ C75 is an attractive, easy fleshing, soggy-made bull with a big spring of rib. He is a clean sheath bull. + C75 ties as the 2 nd top Milk EPD bull to sell and also has one of the biggest Scrotal EPDs! He is likely best suited for use on cows. + Dam Z480 was a first calf heifer with C75 who will move up in time about 3 weeks when she delivers her second calf in January. She is a near perfect uddered cow. + Pathfinder grandam N473 is 10 years old and still going strong with a 363 day calving interval! She’s sure got longevity and fertility! + N473’s claim to fame was producing herd sire Hoover Special Edition – he has done a very nice job for us! N473’s other progeny work for Mike & Sue Beun, G&G Livestock, and Pat Hardy. + N473 records 7-124 IMF ratio to be the 11 th top IMF ratio cow of the herd. + Great grandam K264 was quite the herd bull maker, three times weaning calves among the top 10 weaning weight calves of their respective crops.

Gwen excited to help put the sale catalog together!
