Hoover Chairman Z45 Owned by Andy Eichelberger $5750 Maternal Brother to Lot 96
+ B477 offers the #1 CED EPD and lowest BW EPD of any bull selling, and is a great choice for heifers! He also has the highest CEM EPD in the fall bull division. He’s long bodied offers a lot of lean muscle – his carcass EPDs show he would be a nice choice if you feed out your calves and sell them on the grid or retain ownership. Better yet, his dam is ideal-uddered, as are the Empire daughters, so I predict B477 to make excellent daughters. + Dam V496 is a 16 th generation Blackbird Bonnie female to be bred, born, and raised at Hoover Angus. She traces back to the foundational sire Revolutions Bell Boy, who is estimated to be in the far reaches of 80% of our present-day cow herd. Walt Hoover would be proud! Herd sire Trophyclass traces back 12 generations to a son of Revolutions Bell Boy produced by Walt. + V496 has been an excellent bull-maker, but it’s about time she gives us a heifer! She has a 364 day calving interval on her first three calves. Her first two sons work for John Hartley and Don Williams. + Eight Pathfinders are found in B477’s pedigree, showcasing maternal excellence! + Grandam L413 has been a hard working cow even getting into old age. Her progeny work for John Palmer, Brady Geidel, and Michael Kusgen. One daughter working in our herd was the #1 yearling weight heifer of her crop. + L413 had excellent performance herself, weaning at 817 pounds to be the #1 weaning weight heifer of her crop! + Great grandam J413 was the #1 weaning weight heifer of her crop, and a tremendous cow in her day! Heifer Pregnancy (HP) EPD Fertility is oftentimes undervalued by purebred breeders, but it is the #1 most vital component of a profitable cow herd for commercial cattlemen! The HP EPD is a tool we have to evaluate differences in fertility (pregnancy rates) of heifers. This EPD was built by the American Angus Association from breeders who submit heifer breeding records and their corresponding preg check results. Genomics also play a large role in the calculation of this EPD. Unfortunately, a very small percentage of Angus breeders submit heifer breeding records, the “hard data” for this EPD. Luckily for Hoover Angus customers, our HP EPDs are not just genomic-based, they are backed by a herd that has submitted heifer breeding records and preg check data to the AAA for 20 years. Heifers at Hoover Angus are AI bred without fertility- enhancing protocols (such as CIDRs) which can help aid conception in the less-fertile females in a group. We want to know which heifers can get bred without such aids so we can truly understand the fertility differences within the herd and make appropriate culling decisions. As a guide to help aid your selection, breed average HP EPD for non-parent bulls is +12.4 and the best 1% of the breed is +20.5. The higher the EPD, the better. If Bull A has a +20.0 HP EPD and Bull B has a +15.0 HP EPD, it would be expected that 5% more (the difference between 20.0 and 15.0) of Bull A’s daughters would become pregnant as first calf heifers during a normal breeding season. The animals in this sale average a HP EPD in the best third of the breed! HP EPD only indicates fertility of females during their first breeding season. This is why I often list a dam’s calving interval in footnotes – this is documentation of her fertility beyond her first calf.

+ B425 is a more moderate framed bull whose daughters should make excellent, reasonably-sized cows. He has a small head and is appropriate for using on heifers, yet still has muscle, base width, and solid structure to him. + Dam T60 is one of the lowest birth weight cows in the herd that was selected as a donor because of her past progeny, superior udder quality and added phenotype she puts in her progeny. She adds muscle, as evident in her being the #1 ribeye ratio cow in the herd with 3-113 ribeye ratio on her progeny. + Her two featured progeny work for Jeremy Rudolph and Andy Eichelberger. Other progeny work for Pat Carr and Martens Angus. + Grandam P229 has put three replacement daughters in the herd and has progeny working for Brett Barnett, Medlin Angus and Reiman Livestock. Steve Medlin brags on the calves out of his P229 son! A beautiful granddaughter is featured as Lot 131. + I remember great grandam H4 as being one of the most perfect uddered cows on the farm. She was very feminine fronted and slick haired – truly the epitome of what a model Angus female should look like. She had a 363 day calving interval on her 9 progeny.
I sent Ty out to practice leading his lamb. . . and this is what I see!
