Hoover Angus - 97th Annual Angus Bull & Female Sale [2/4/25]

QUEEN OF ELLSTON B422 Reg. 20963998

149 Fall Bred Heifer

Functional Longevity (FL) EPD Functional Longevity EPD is a relatively new research EPD the American Angus Association provides to females in herds committed to maternal-trait data collection and submission (Maternal Plus ® herds). In the case of the females listed below, FL EPD predicts the number of calves their daughters are expected to produce by six years of age, compared with other females’ daughters. In other words, it provides guidance in genetic differences relating to a cow’s ability to productively stay in the herd. As an example, if Heifer A has a +1.5 FL EPD and Heifer B has a +.5 FL EPD, it would be expected a daughter of Heifer A would give birth to one more calf (1.5 - .5 = 1) than a daughter of Heifer B by six years of age. Breed average FL EPD is +1.01. Animals with values greater than breed average are considered “breed improvers” for this trait. Higher numbers are more desirable. 96% of the females selling today have a FL EPD above breed average. Likewise, over 90% of the 579 Hoover-owned females have a FL EPD above breed average. Hoover Angus has been submitting cow disposal codes for 20 years, which has helped build the Angus database, as well as whole-herd reporting for decades (reporting all calves of a calf crop and not just the good ones). This helps bring validity and accuracy to the FL EPD. + AI to Deep Creek Legitimate 203 on 11-19-24. + B422 is a wide-based, long bodied heifer with the nice shiny black coat as Jan Bonsma talked about as an indicator of endocrine balance. + B422 has the 2 nd highest Ribeye EPD of any animal selling today! + Dam P442 has an excellent 364 day calving interval on her 7 progeny. Her super calm daughter working for Jeff Graham was the #1 weaning weight, 5 th top IMF, 4 th top ribeye scanning heifer of her crop. Her sons work for Steve Agan and John Orr. John’s bull was the 10 th top weaning weight, 5 th top yearling weight, 4 th top IMF bull of his crop! + Fifth generation dam is the great C50 cow – regarded as the 2 nd best cow ever in production at Hoover Angus! The following is an extremely condensed version of her successes. At just a couple short months away from 17 years of age, we laid C50 to rest north of our bull barn, next to the other greats like CC&7, Gridiron, Bullseye, and G366. + Prior to holding C50 out of production for one year to flush her, she had a 363 day calving interval on her 13 natural progeny, which included stealing flushes 6 different years. C50 weaned her 14 th natural calf at over 16 years of age! + C50 was a superior uddered cow even into old age, and offered foot and structure quality rarely found. She grossed over a quarter million dollars in registered progeny sales. C50 has an amazing three Pathfinder daughters. Thirty-four sons of C50 have come to auction at Hoover Angus, more than any other cow in our history, and her last two sons sell today as Lots 28-29. Lot 29 was the heaviest weaning weight bull of the entire 2024 Hoover crop!

+ AI to Mogck Empire 110 on 11-26-24. + B450 is a nice footed, square-made heifer with lots of body. + Dam X34’s first daughter is a superior uddered young cow retained in the herd. B450 was her second calf. + Grandam S48 has earned Pathfinder honors and her progeny work for Mark Grossman and Brady Wolfgram. Mark’s bull was the 2 nd top weaning weight bull of his crop. + Great grandam H263 was lost to lightening before her days should have been done, but she recorded a whopping 9-106 WR and a 364 day calving interval. Two daughters earned Pathfinder honors and two others were retained in the herd. Three daughters were among the top 10 adjusted weaning weight heifer calves of their crops. + This cow family has some really strong cows through the generations, and 7 th generation dam N46 has put 25 daughter descendants in the Hoover herd. N46 was a Pathfinder, and gave rise to 12 more Pathfinder descendants – what an amazing accomplishment!
