the fire. He didn’t tell them that he was a follower of Jesus. He just sat there warm ing his hands and hoped that no one would notice him. But they did. One after an other of the servants looked at Peter and said that he was one of Jesus’ followers. And what do you suppose that Peter did? Did he say, “Yes, I am a follower of Jesus. I know that He is the Son of God, and even if He must suffer and die, He will rise from the dead and all those who believe shall rise from the dead too, and go to live with God forever and ever”—were these Peter’s words? No, Peter did not say all of this. He was afraid, and he even told a lie! “I do not know the man,” is what he said. Don’t you feel sorry about Peter, ’tvhen he was such a coward? Are you ever such a coward as Peter was?
been prayed for! There is a sample in John 17:20: "Neither pray I for these alone,” Christ says, "but for them also which shall believe on me through their word.” In this petition, our Lord enfolded in His loving intercessory arms every believer down to the end of time. 3. "And P eter fo llo w ed afar o f f ’ (v. 54). Peter has been severely criticized, and perhaps justly so, for following “afar off.” But before we become too harsh in our judgment, let us note that Peter "fol low ed." There was something in the Lord that drew and held this erring disciple. It is the nature of a sheep to follow, and Peter was one of the Lord’s sheep. And just one look from the Shepherd sent Peter out into the night, not to commit suicide in despair as Judas did, but weeping bitterly for his sin and failure. One of the saddest stories since the great war tells of an honored New York soldier who fell into evil ways through self-indul gence,. committed a crime, and was sen tenced to the penitentiary. A little later the sorrowing mother received the notification that her son had been awarded the Croix de Guerre for his bravery in the Chateau- Thierry battle. W e must all remember that it is the man who endures to the end who wins the reward. Paul understood this. —T he Expositor. O b jects: A large nail, two small nails, two six-volt dry-cell batteries, and a coil, as described in the previous lesson. (Print the word "CHRIST” on the outside of this coil.) L esson: Would you like to have a les son in making magnets? First, I made a coil by wrapping several layers of fine covered wire around a small cardboard tube. Next, we connect the ends of the wire to the bat teries. If we place a piece of iron or steel inside the coil, it will become magnetized immediately. W e will use this nail. Watch the nail jump up and down. (Hold the bottom of the coil about two inches from the table. Make and break the contact with the batteries rapidly, and the nail will jump up and down.) See what power the nail now has, and how easily it lifts these other nails. W e will remove the large nail from the coil and see what happens. It has lost its lifting power. This nail reminds me of Peter. When Peter was close to Christ, he claimed he would never deny his Lord; but after he began following Christ afar off, he denied his Lord. W e should remember Peter’s failure and also Paul’s warning: “Let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall” (1 Cor. 10:12). Christ is looking for people who will remain true to Him when it is difficult to do so, as well as when it is easy.

John 21:11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, a hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken. 12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord. 13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth mem, and fish likewise.
14 This is now the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead. 15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
