RANDI MIRANDA Thomas E. Meiers Memorial Scholarship
About the Scholarship This scholarship was established by John and Rita Canning in honor of Rita's brother, who died in an automobile accident during his senior year at UWSP in 1965. The scholarship originated with money raised by members of Vets 550, the student organization for which Thomas E. Meiers served as president. Every year, two student-veterans are awarded scholarships, based on scholastic achievement and other personal qualifications. More than 40 student veterans have benefited. The Cannings have helped many students achieve their personal goals and want this scholarship to go on forever. Randi graduated with a bachelor’s degree in dietetics spring 2023 and is pursuing master’s degree in community and organizational leadership. She is a United States of America Navy veteran and a mother of two children, Hayden and Hunter. Randi aspires to open a comprehensive center for veterans that provides support for nutrition, mental health and physical wellness.
