Tasmanian Hospitality Review: April/May 2025

Great Customer Experience Program

valuable insights on elevating customer experiences and provided a platform for participants to share ideas on what makes Penguin unique.

Another highlight of the past few months was a trip to King Island for a highly successful Great Community Experience session, where local businesses showed tremendous support. While on the island, Gena and Dave had the opportunity to conduct Business Health Checks and Venue Awareness sessions, assisting various businesses in their growth efforts. The team also got a sneak peek into the development of the new King Island Hub, an exciting project designed to provide the community with a central space for collaboration and creativity. The locals even invited Gena and Dave to contribute to the hub’s community tile wall by painting a tile, adding their own personal touch to the project. Rounding out the King Island visit was the chance to tour the recently renovated Great Southern King Island (formerly known as the Boomerang by the Sea). The restaurant, which offers stunning views of the Great Southern Ocean, has been revamped with a focus on bringing the island’s rich natural resources to the menu.

Further up the coast, the diversity and impact the GCE program can have to a range of businesses was on full display. Gena had the pleasure of meeting with Alana and Logan from Wild on West, a truly unique family- run business that offers an unforgettable experience for visitors, at Mooreville Burnie. She also visited another iconic destination in the region – the Emu Valley Rhododendron Garden – for a Business Health Check with Lynne and Sophie, before also catching up with award winning Hellyers Road Distillery. Big changes are underway at the distillery, with branding updates and major renovations in progress. While the restaurant is currently closed for the renovations, tours of the distillery are still running strong, giving visitors a chance to experience the brand’s iconic whisky production up close.

It’s clear that local businesses across the region are committed to investing in their growth, improving the customer experience, and supporting the development of their staff. The Great Customer Experience team continues to play a vital role in helping these businesses thrive, and it’s inspiring to witness the passion and dedication that local owners and operators bring to their communities.
