The North West Coast will come alive this winter, with a new festival to unfold across the entire region. This OffSeason, Tasmania’s North West won’t just be turning on the heaters… it’s flipping the switch on a whole new reason to visit. From May to August, the North West will come alive as towns, lighthouses and heritage landmarks transform into canvases of storytelling, creativity and community. Anchored by five large-scale light and sound projections, surrounded by grassroots events, this celebration puts winter in the North West on the must-do list. It’s all part of Tourism Tasmania’s OffSeason campaign, and it’s already made an impact. For the past two years, Wynyard has drawn visitors in with Permission to Trespass, a month-long event granting access to usually off-limit places. At its heart is Moonlight Stories, a free, large-scale projection that’s turned Table Cape Lighthouse into a beacon of cultural storytelling. Locals have opened gates, paddocks and sheds, running pop-ups, long table dinners, tastings and tours, all powered by community spirit. Now, that model is expanding across the region.
Led by West by North West, the Regional Tourism Organisation, this initiative brings together local operators and community groups to build a sustainable winter event model designed to grow year on year. By lighting up towns across the West and North West, it gives visitors a fresh reason to rug up and explore. These events are about industry coming together to showcase the best of the Off Season. In 2025, the series expands to five unique locations: Strahan, Queenstown, Wynyard, King Island and Penguin. Each site becomes a canvas for original stories, crafted by artist Alex Moss.
