Top Tourism Town Awards INDUSTRY FEATURE
Last year it was a clean sleep for Tasmania across three categories at Australia’s Top Tourism Town Awards, including Devonport taking out gold in the Top Tourism Town category. Nominations for the 2025 state awards are now closed, with voting to open soon. Tassie’s Top Tourism Town Awards is an opportunity for Tasmanian towns of all sizes to showcase what makes their special part of Tassie an amazing visitor destination in its own right. Administered by Tourism Industry Council Tasmania, this program forms part of the national search for Australia’s Top Tourism Towns which are awarded at an annual ceremony at Parliament House in September. Tasmania’s towns and villages are where our visitors discover the real Tasmania – the characters, the history, and stories, that make exploring our state so rewarding. Our towns are also where our tourism dollars are spent – supporting local businesses and local jobs and keeping our regional communities vibrant for everyone.
This program is an opportunity for Tasmanian towns of all sizes to promote what makes their corner of Tassie so special. It is also about recognising those places where tourism operators, businesses, and the local community band together to make their town the very best destination it can be. Nominations are open to any city or town, specifically relating to geographical towns and population centres, not Local Government Areas. There are three categories available, each based on population size. The Top Tourism Town Award (for populations over 5000), the Small Tourism Town Award (for populations under 5000, but greater than 1500), and the Tiny Tourism Town Award (for populations under 1500).
