Object Lessen G od -G iven C hurch and C ountry OBJECTS: A 5* triangle, two pieces, of string 4 feet long, a sketch of the national Capitol, a sketch of a church, 8 pieces of paper 3x11% inches, and a small paper sketch of the world. (Cov er a piece of cardboard a yard square with outing flannel. Paste flannel on the back of each of the above men-, tioned articles, so that they will stick to the flannel-board. Print the word “GOD” on the triangle. Write the fol lowing words on the pieces of paper: “PARDON, MERCY, LAW, FREEDOM, GIFTS, PROTECTION, JUSTICE, BIBLE, OBEDIENCE, .and TAXES,” Make a pocket on the back of the church and the Capitol, between the sketch and the flannel, and place the first four words mentioned in the church, and the others in the Capitol.) LESSON: I want to talk to you about two things God hais given the world. We will place .God’s name at the top of the board, and the world at the bottom. We will • run this piece of string down on the left to this church, and on’to the world. The other string we will run down to the national Capi tol on the right, and to the world. God has given us the church and state. They were both established by Him. Therefore, there are certain privileges and responsibilities attached to both. In time of war, particularly, there is often much confusion if this is not remembered.

We will see what privileges and responsibilities we can find in'these two institutions. In the church, we find the word “PARDON.” Pardon comes from Christ, but we learn of it through the Bible' and spme member of His church. In the state, we find the word “PROTECTION.” If a fobber gets into our homer we call the police and not the church to protect us. [Place these words under their re spective pictures.] Next we find “MERCY” in the church, and “JUS TICE” in the state. Looking further, we find :“BIBLE” in the church and “LAW” in the state. Next we discover “FREEDOM” and “OBEDIENCE.” Often obedience to country will require one to serve in time of war. The church makes it possible to give gifts, and the state requires taxes. It will be well for us to remember that we have our church and country, and that each carries certain responsibilities, and privileges. 17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Cae sar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. And they marveled at him. Romans 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth an other hath fulfilled the law. 9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adul- tery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt npt covet; and if there by any other commandment, it is briefly compre hended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 10 Love^worketh nò ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. 1 Peter 2:13 Subhiit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; 14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evil doers, and for the praise of them that do well. 15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing, ye may put to silence the ignor ance of foolish men: 16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. 17 Honor all men. Love thè brother hood. Fear God. Honor the king. LESSON TEXT: Mki 12:13-17; Rom. 13:8- 10; 1 Pet. 2:13-17. GOLDEN TEXT: “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ” (Gai. 6:2). DEVOTIONAL READING: Psa. 103:1-5, 8-13. ^

Mark 12:13 And they send unto him cer tain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words. 14 And when they were come» they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man; for thou re- gardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? 15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.' 16 And they brought it. And hi saith unto them, Whose is this image and super scription? And they said unto him, Caesar's.
