UNKNOWN CHRIST ["Continued from. Page 328]

mons you preached about Him. If He be lifted up, He will draw, and you won’t have to strain and strive trying to do it. It takes a person to reach persons, and people who look out the window While you discourse on some profound doctrine' will perk up when you begin to talk about Him. After all, the whole trouble with both sinners and saints is that sinners do not know Him at all, and saints don’t know Him well, so why not make your theme the Un known Christ? Then do not forget that there are many who know a false Christ. Our Lord said that false Christs should appear, and I am not thinking of false leaders in the flesh, but of the false Christ that men have constructed be cause they do not like the Christ of the cross. This false Christ was not virgin born; He is not the Son of God; He did not die an atoning death, nor rise from the dead, and He is not com ing again. He is the only Christ that thousands of people know. To them the Lord of Calvary is unknown, and though some of them may prophesy and do mighty works, one day He must say to them, “I never knew you.” And you who are orthodox enough, how Well do you know Christ? Is He not an Unknown Christ in many ways, a Christ who touches few of the inter ests of your life? Must He not say to you, “Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me?” Do you know Him in consecra tion, in identification, in the sense of Galatians 2:20 and Philippians 1:21? Have you gone to Him without the camp, bearing His reproach? Are you decreasing that He may increase? Have you forgotten that the whoje matter is “that I may know him” and be “conformed to the image of his Son”? You have made ^a profession and have taken out spiritual life in surance and have laid the policy away in the trunk, but do you know any thing of the excellency of the knowl edge of Christ Jesus your Lord? Some of us have stopped with con version, but if our Christ is able to save our souls, He can save us* from daily sins and doubts and fears. If He can <3o the greater, He can do the lesser. , “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” If He died for us, He lives for us. If He is sufficient for the past, He is enough for the present and the future. “There standeth one among you, whom ye know not” in -a deeper experience of His grace and power. But how may we know Him? He has told us: “He that hath my command ments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me
