If you are looking for organic food options, you probably need not look far. However, trying to make sense of organic food labels, health benefits and various claims can be confusing. Learn the difference between organically grown and conventionally grown produce and how pesticides, GMO, hormones and antibiotics affect crops. Discover the benefits and drawbacks of organic foods. Participants will be seated on metal picnic tables under the Book Family Pavilion; alternatively, participants may elect to bring their own lightweight folding chairs. As seniors progress and notice a decline in cognitive function, the biggest fear is falling. Consisting of three 15-minute segments of sitting, standing and walking, this class will help you build your confidence and regain or maintain your balance. Fall prevention and how to correctly fall to avoid injuries will be discussed. Please bring water for hydration and wear gym shoes with good support. In order to participate in the Regain Your Balance class, you must be mobile and able to support yourself without assistance. Learn about accessibility features on the buses and trains, trip planning and safety tips for traveling, an overview of Ventra, RTA fare programs such as Ride Free and Reduce Fare as well as RTA’s Travel Training Program. Come and have fun learning something new! The class consists of exercises, stance training, Kung Fu Forms (routines of movements), staff routines and two-person applications. Stretching is vital for seniors and allows for greater movement in joints while improving overall posture in addition to releasing muscle tension and soreness, reducing the risk of injury. It also may help increase circulation, muscle control and improve balance and coordination. This 30-minute class, taught by Cecilia Floyd-Carruthers, covers stretching exercises from head to toe in a seated position as well as standing, using a chair for balance.
