Chiro1Source Launches a New Campaign to Feed the Hungry PROFIT WITH PURPOSE
2024 JUNE
As a kid, I set a goal of making a lot of
away. He argued that for-profit businesses could make a bigger impact if they gave directly to chosen causes.
money. That objective drove me for years — until I realized it left me with a very empty feeling. That’s when I made giving to others one of my most pressing goals. I loved the movie “Pay It Forward,” and I try to practice that principle in our business. In recognition of the Worldwide
Companies that do this can make a big splash. TOMS, a shoe and apparel company, created a stir when it launched its “Buy One Give One” program in 2006, promising to donate shoes to needy recipients for every pair purchased. Over the next 14 years, TOMS gave away 100 million pairs — so many that critics blamed the company for hurting footwear industries in recipient countries. By 2021, TOMS shifted to partnering with grassroots organizations to meet community needs, including improving mental health resources and ending gun violence. The brewer Stella Artois had a similar impact with its clean water initiative, Pour It Forward (a spin-off on Pay It Forward). For every six-pack sold, the company gave six months of clean water to recipients in the developing world. Since 2015, the campaign has benefited 1.5 million people worldwide. In my experience, the good feeling you get from paying it forward lasts long after you forget the money you gave. During the pandemic, I participated in the $100 TIp Club campaign to help struggling service workers. I still remember the look on the face of the friendly, efficient young waiter who served my wife and me at a high-end Italian pizza restaurant. After I signed off on my $100 tip, my wife and I could still see him through the restaurant’s large glass windows. He studied the receipt excitedly and rushed to show it to his co-workers. Then he sat down in a corner and leaned back against the wall, smiling. It was clear our small gesture had made his day. Someday, we may live in a world where the only businesses that survive are those that pay it forward via thoughtful, systematic charitable giving. If that sounds like a good idea, consider spending a little of your revenue to help those in need. You could donate to Feeding America a percentage of each chiropractic adjustment you do for a patient this month or share your revenue from sales of a particular product.
Day of Giving this month, we will donate 10 meals to Feeding America for every order placed during June. Feeding America is a nonprofit network of 200 food banks and 60,000 meal programs, with a great track record of low administrative expenses and high impact. This charity delivers 10 meals to hungry people for every $1 received.
Chiro1Source has contributed $25,686 to Feeding America since 2021, providing more than a quarter of a million meals. I believe it’s important to go public about your giving as a business in hopes of inspiring others to participate. During our last fundraising campaign in 2022, when we donated a percentage of sales of our HeartNSoles insoles and Chiro1Source T-shirts to Feeding America, some customers chipped in extra dollars and asked me to donate more meals on their behalf.
An expert speaker once argued that for-profit organizations should engage in more direct charitable giving. The problem with nonprofit fundraising, he said, is that it depends on people with money. The problem with

PATIE A Trainer Invention
UNLOCK THE POWER OF RAW VEGETABLES FROM GARDEN TO PLATE
After working 11 years as a strength trainer and rehab specialist helping hundreds of patients, Gabriel Burrell thought he had seen it all. Then, one day, he says, ”I met a patient with the worst shoulders I had ever seen. He was a 6-foot-2, full-grown, 220-pound man, and he could not even shoulder-press five pounds over his head.”
Vegetables are an essential part of a healthy diet, and while baked or stir-fried dishes are delicious, you could be cooking out beneficial vitamins and nutrients. For example, heat degrades the cancer-fighting compound myrosinase found in raw broccoli. Garlic’s main beneficial compound is allicin, which can also be destroyed if you cook it. Thankfully, you can find many ways to use these and other vegetables raw instead. If you want the most potent dose of enzymes, vitamins, and minerals possible from plant-based foods, you must consume them raw. From improvements to your skin to a stronger heart, there’s a bounty of reasons to incorporate uncooked veggies into your meals. Here are three other reasons to enjoy them uncooked. FUN AND TASTY The natural crisp flavor and crunch of uncooked veggies can be just a fun and tasty way to curb your hunger. Raw carrots, celery, or tomatoes are an easy snack that won’t lead you or your child into a sugar crash within a few hours. They can also brighten up a salad and are great to have on hand to add to smoothies or vegetable juices.
The patient, we’ll call him Dave, “blew out both shoulders playing football when he was 10 years old, and he never got any help,” Burrell says. “His shoulders were wrecked.” Also, Dave’s work as an attorney led to spending long hours hunched over a computer at his desk. Dave’s problems were so severe that Burrell dug out an experimental prototype device he had made at home. To help patients practice healthy posture, he tied two stretch bands to loop around the anterior shoulders and connect to a center-back brace. Burrell had tossed the gadget aside years earlier because he couldn’t resolve a sticking point in the design. But, hoping the gadget might
help Dave, he dug it out from under his laundry basket and gave it to him, with instructions to wear it for 30 to 40 minutes periodically throughout the day. He also continued to train Dave three days a week. A few weeks later, “he came to me and said, ‘My shoulders feel better than they’ve ever felt in my life. You’ve got to get this thing on the market!’” Burrell refused. “I’m glad I could help you, but this is a passion project. I’m happy with training and don’t need anything more from life.” But Dave kept insisting. “He would literally harass me,” Burrell says. “Then, one day, something clicked in my head.” A solution for the sticking point dawned on him, and he became excited about bringing the device to market. “It must have been the Good Lord saying, ‘Now is the time. Do this!’” Burrell shares.
WEIGHT MANAGEMENT Raw veggies are naturally low in calories and high in fiber and can contribute to weight loss or better weight management. Along with being packed with fresh nutrients, opting for uncooked vegetables minimizes food preparation techniques that increase the calories in a meal. You want to avoid dousing vegetables with butter, cream, and cheese. Raw veggies also tend to be filling, so they can aid in reducing your snack cravings. HYDRATION Water is necessary for our bodies to work properly, allowing our organs, as well as key processes like digestion and body temperature maintenance, to function correctly. Many of the most popular and accessible vegetables, like cucumbers, have a high water content. Eating raw veggies like this can give you a needed boost of hydration.
That marked the birth of Posture Medic, but Burrell’s path wasn’t easy. Distributors initially refused to carry the device, and naysayers predicted Burrell wouldn’t be able to patent it. Nevertheless, the product’s debut at the 2012 Parker Seminars Las Vegas convention was described by one veteran distributor as the most successful launch he had seen in 30 years in the business.
So, put away the frying pan, butter, and oil, and incorporate uncooked vegetables into your daily diet. Your body will thank you!
ENT POWER r’s Therapeutic ns Strike Gold Burrell has since secured 15 patents on Posture Medic and licenses to sell it in several European countries. His nagging patient, Dave, has made amazing progress and is stronger than ever. Burrell is president of a successful company, PrimeKinetix of Searcy, Ark., marketing various posture training, back therapy, and massage devices for chiropractors and their patients. Posture Medic is designed to stretch the chest and anterior shoulder muscles and strengthen weak upper back muscles so they can hold the shoulders in place. The device comes in 10 sizes and two strength levels for athletes and non-athletes. Another PrimeKinetix invention, also hatched by Burrell while working with patients, is MyoBalls, a massage product that wraps extremities in a compression band lined with massage balls. The balls stretch and loosen tight muscles as they are rolled over pain points and provide helpful therapy for plantar fasciitis, tight shin or calf muscles, carpal tunnel strain, and tennis or golfer’s elbow. Burrell designed another product, the PCore lower back brace, to improve on conventional back braces by offering both hot or cold therapy and flexible or semi-rigid support. The PCore can be fitted with tourmaline pads to continuously warm the back via reflected body heat or ice packs for cold therapy. It also has removable semi- rigid panels for added back support if needed.
Chiro1Source proudly offers chiropractors a “buy 10, get two free” starter kit package deal” on PrimeKinetix’s Posture Medix, MyoBalls, and PCore products at a 50% discount. This includes point-of-purchase displays, brochures, and posters.
For Burrell, PrimeKinetix is amplifying his ability to help patients, and he is grateful for the company’s success. “Over the past 20 years, all I’ve done is engage with the human body and do my best to help it. It’s been an amazing journey,” he says. “We are so thankful.”
