Mas- saro’s path to industry leader began upon graduating from the University of Pittsburgh’s Civil Engineering Program in 1958. He has touched so many people that work in our in- dustry. He was a role model for so many contractors and architects. In 2002, Massaro named his son Joseph presi- dent, stepping down from the company that he twice built into a highly respected construction firm. Continu- ing what their father taught them, his children have used the strong work ethic he taught them to lead the com- pany. The James Kling Fellow- ship Award was established by the AIA-MBA Joint Com- mittee to recognize those individuals who best exem- plify collaboration between the design and constructor professions. These individu- als, through their action and example, provide both members of the AIA and the MBA standards of excellence to strive for in an effort to bridge the gap between both professions. To qualify for this award, individuals must be nominated by the opposite profession. n
