continued... the bigger single horizontal radial, as well as double-unit extracting plants. John manufactured our horizontal 52-frame extractor and has now sold the business to his nephew Mark Jacobs, whom he taught to weld when Mark was 11. Mark is now producing a new small machine (designed by John) for those with up to 150 hives. It has three racks that can hold eight frames each, but the extractor can extract just three (or in multiples of three frames) up to 24 frames at a time using the same principles as the big extractor. It’s easy to clean: just tip in a bucket of warm water and turn it on. It’s good for those with restricted space. This new machine was sold within an hour, plus he had another two orders confirmed while we were there. Bill Winner from Capilano Honey Limited seemed to be the main sales agent, introducing a lot of beekeepers to the machine. He has one and was very impressed with it. Right and below: Bill Winner of Capilano Honey Limited showing how the frames slide in to the small extracting machine designed by John Bowland. Bottom right: View from John Bowland’s extractor from the back. (The sump tank which comes with the extractor is not shown.)
