Jerry Adamson, 86, passed away Sept. 17 in North Platte, Neb. Jerry owned Rocking J Ranch at Valentine, which today boasts 50,000 acres and more than 3,800 cattle. Jerry appreciated good horses, exceptional cattle and Cornhusker football. He loved roping of any kind and was in his element when heeling calves in the branding pen or roping steers in an arena. Jerry’s dedication to agriculture brought numerous awards and recognition. He was named Nebraska Cattleman of the Year, was a University of Nebraska Block and Bridle honoree, achieved membership in the Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement and received the coveted Beef Improvement Federation Commercial Producer of the Year award. Wade Lewis, 76, passed away Sept. 21, in Amarillo, Texas. Wade and his father, Walt, built and managed Cattle Town Feedyard. In the early 1970s, Walt and Wade also built and managed Hereford Feedyard. Both comprised the first major commercial feedyards in Deaf Smith County. Wade also had a successful career in rodeo. During his career in the arena, he picked up wins at some big-name rodeos. He was the 1982 steer roping world champion and claimed three wins at Cheyenne Frontier Days for steer roping. He spent 48 years in charge of his feedyards and continued breaking horses on his own ranch during the remainder of his days. Walter “Wally” Koers, Ph.D., 82, passed away Sept. 28. Wally worked at Texas A&M as an assistant professor and researcher until moving his family to Kansas to work with Cargill as a feedlot consultant in 1975. In 1977, Wally and family took a leap and started Koers Consulting Service, allowing him to do what he loved every minute of every day. He loved everything about the art and science of feeding cattle, and he thrived in the satisfaction of building relationships with feedlots and ranches across the country. In 1988 he founded Bos Technica Research Services and, with partner Shane Davis, brought research precision to the feedlot industry, which is still thriving to this day. R.A.“Rob” Brown, Jr., 89, of Throckmorton, Texas, passed away Nov. 7. He was the owner of the legacy R.A. Brown Ranch, which is known for its seedstock cattle, Quarter Horse breeding program, and commercial cow-calf, stocker and cattle feeding ventures. Rob was active in industry organizations, including as a National Cattlemen’s Beef Association director, American Quarter Horse Association president and American Simmental Association president. Rob received industry honors, including being inducted into the Livestock Industry Hall of Fame Saddle and Sirloin Club, the AQHA Hall of Fame, honored as the nation’s top rancher with the Golden Spur Award and many other recognitions in the agriculture industry.
