IN memoriam

STEVEN LUTVAK, 1959-2023 At Ucross, we were fortunate to meet Steve in 2004, as part of the Sundance Institute Playwrights Retreat. Over the next two decades, Steve would return to Ucross several times, where he worked on A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder . A Gentleman’s Guide went on to win the Drama League, Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk, and Tony Awards for Best Musical of 2014. He is survived by his husband, choreographer Michael McGowan, and their daughter, Eliot Rose Lutvak-McGowan. CAROL ANN SCHWENNESEN, 1945-2023 Carol’s visionary paintings are in collections in Italy, England, Japan, and the United States. While she continued to receive acclaim for her artistic endeavours and exhibitions, Carol was equally dedicated to teaching art. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Gehrke, children, grandchildren, and numerous cherished friends. During her time at Ucross in 2006, she said, “There has been no other art experience that has been as wide and deep and solid as the experience of being at Ucross.”
