Community Noticeboard

Welcome to Term 4 and the longer days, warmer weather and hopefully, abundant sunshine. I hope everyone is refreshed and ready to go for high - octane - learning in the last quarter. The emphasis from teaching staff will be very clear: facilitate learning to maximise student academic growth and outcomes in final exams and assessments. Every student has targeted literacy, numeracy and social/emotional goals to achieve this Term so that their academic year is completed with reward for effort. Thank you to the parents/carers who supported their children at the Primary Learner Review meetings at the end of last Term. We can report that approximately 65% of families connected on the day. This is slightly down from 73% in the first Term. It is important that all families, where possible, make contact to connect with their child ’ s program so that we are working in partnership to support academic growth and learning. This time of the year is often stressful for students. It is imperative that you provide support at home and that you reach out to us when your child may require professional assistance or counselling. We can support with careers pathway planning and welfare needs, including uniform, transition advice, and progress reports. Please contact the general office for guidance on these matters.

The Lakes South Morang College Newsletter PRINCIPAL REPORT

As adults, it is essential that our behaviour remains calm and controlled, especially when we feel under pressure or adversity, and that we always support our children by collaborating with staff harnessing a problem - solving mindset. This is the consistent message that is communicated to our school staff and headlines our staff protocols. Any visitor on either Campus will feel this sense of calmness which enables our students and staff to feel safe in their school environment. This is enhanced with our security upgrades, CCTV, alarms and new perimeter fences. We thank all of our families for their support on this matter. Over the holidays our maintenance teams have been very busy. On the Primary Campus, partitions have been completed in the Year 1 area, which will also serve as a lovely and needed seminar/professional development room. An additional interview room alongside the Prep classroom has also been prepared for parent/carer meetings and child health service providers. All classrooms on the Primary Campus have new air - conditioners/heating units in time for the summer period, which will be welcomed by all. Partitions have also been completed to the Health/PE theory room on the Secondary Campus and the ramp works have continued. I can report that we have had no break - ins or any reported vandalism during the holidays. Thank you to the families who live adjacent to our College for their watch and act approach during the breaks. The grounds across the College have been cleared and mowed so that our lovely school environment is ready for our students, staff and our families keeping our strong focus on school pride. There are numerous key dates and events/activities that will impact your child this Term. The events are to stimulate our love for learning, to provide exciting opportunities for learning in environments beyond the classroom and to celebrate student success at year ’ s end. Ways of communicating absences include:

Placing a future Absence Request through the Compass Education Portal;

Calling the office;

As required by the Department of Education, all schools must notify parents/carers informing that their child is absent. Please inform the office of absences before 10am each morning.

NO HAT - NO PLAY

We will be enforcing our ‘ No Hat, No Play ’ policy in Term 4 on the Primary Campus. Wide - brimmed hats (with the school logo), are available at the uniform shop.

CSEF (CAMPS, SPORTS & EXCURSIONS FUND)

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund helps eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps, and sporting activities. If you have a valid means - tested concession card, such as a Veterans Affairs Gold Card, Centrelink Health Care Card, or Pensioner Concession Card, or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible. There is also a special consideration category for asylum seeker and refugee families. Payment amounts this year are $150.00 for eligible primary school students and $250.00 for eligible secondary school students. Payments are made direct to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions, and sporting activities for the benefit of your child. Foundation and Year 7 government school students who are CSEF recipients are also eligible for a uniform voucher. Schools are required to make applications on behalf of parents, so please register your interest at the school.

It is important that funding made available in 2024 supports students to participate in school trips, camps, and sporting activities this year rather than being held for future years. This funding can also be used in conjunction with any funding accrued from previous years. If you applied for CSEF through our school last year, you do not need to complete an application form this year, unless there has been a change in your family circumstances.

If you would like to apply for the first time, please contact the College on 9404 9000 and ask for an application form.

You can also download the form, and find out more about the program and eligibility, on the Department of Education and Training ’ s Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund web page.

Check with the school office if you are unsure, and please return completed forms to the school office as soon as possible.

Please call 9404 9000 if you have a service or upcoming event you would like to promote through our Newsletter.
