HEALTHY PEOPLE 2030 OBJECTIVES: CVD, DIABETES AND OBESITY

Healthy People 2030 (HP2030) 104 sets data-driven national objectives to improve health and well-be- ing in the U.S. over the next decade. Developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, HP2030 includes 359 measurable objectives, subsets of which address health conditions like heart disease and stroke, diabetes, and overweight and obesity.

Some HP2030 objectives are termed Leading Health Indicators 105 –a subset of high-priority objec- tives that cover an entire lifespan.

Leading Health Indicators relevant to CVD, diabetes and obesity are: • Increase control of high blood pressure in adults: 16.1% of adults over 18 with high blood pressure/hypertension had it under control in 2017-2020. The goal is to reach 18.9% by 2030. • Reduce the number of diabetes cases diagnosed yearly: 5.5 new cases of diabetes per 1,000 adults 18-84 were reported during 12-month periods in the years 2019-2021. The goal is to decrease this number to 4.8 per 1,000 by 2030. • Reduce the proportion of children and adolescents with obesity: 19.7% of children and adolescents 2–19 had obesity in 2017–2019. The goal is to reduce this to 15.5% in 2030.
