listening to these true, beautiful stories from God’s Word ;■ and how . happy if makes us to know that we have such a wonderful and loving Savior. Today we are going to hear about a little girl twelve years old. Her father was the ruler of the synagogue, but his heart was very sad, for his little girl was sick. This father was hurrying to find JeSus, who was on the seashore, with a great crowd of people gathered about Him. When the ruler saw Jesus, he fell at His feet and begged Him to come to his house and lay His hands upon his little girl that she might be well. Jesus felt very sorry for the sick and suffering ones, and His great heart of love went out to them. He went with this father, and the crowds followed. On the way, a sick woman met Him, just touched the, hem of his garment, and was healed. (Picture this beautiful in cident to the children, emphasizing the love and tenderness of the Savior as He spoke to her.) While Jesus was talking to the woman, a messenger came from the home of the ruler saying the dear little girl was now deqd, and not to trouble the Lord any more. We know how sad this poor father felt when he heard his child was dead; for, even though he was a ruler and had a lovely home, there was no earthly power to bring back life to his child. When Jesus heard the word, He told the ruler not to fear, but only believe. Jesus left the crowd and took Peter, James and John with him to the ruler’s home. When He arrived, he found crowds gathered about the home, crying and making a great noise. Jesus told them the child was not dead, and the peo ple laughed Him to scorn. The Lord Jesus took the father and mother and the three disciples and went into the room where the little girl lay dead. Jesus took the child by the hand and told her to arise. Now, she was dead and could not move; but when the One who gave life, and has all power even over death, spoke, she im mediately opened her eyes and arose and walked. My! What a happy time for that father and mother to have their dear little girl back again all well and strong! Can we not come to such a loving Lord and Savior with all our troubles ? Yes, if we too will only believe and trust Him. (Prayer.) Spiritual Liabilities and Assets “Men would pray better if they lived better,” says E. M. Bounds. “They would get more from God if they lived more obediently and well pleasing to God. We would have more strength and time for the Divine work of intercession if we did not have to expend so much strength and time settling up old scores and paying our delinquent taxes. Our spiritual liabilities are so greatly in excess of our spiritual assets that our closet time is spent in tak ing out a decree of bankruptcy instead of being the time of great spiritual wealth for us and for others. Our closets are too much like the sign, ‘Closed for repairs.’ ”

having heard the things concerning Jesus, came in the crowd, behind, and touched his garment." This woman had suffered from her disease twelve years. There seems to be a very close connection between disease and sin. God, in setting forth His character in Ex. 34: 6, 7, says that He is the God ‘‘visiting the iniquities of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.” Jesus, hav ing healed the man in Jerusalem (Jno. 5), commanded the latter, " Behold, thou art made whole. Sin no more lest a worse thing befall thee" (v. 14). . Later in the ministry of our Lord He healed a woman “whom Satan had bound, lo, these eigh teen years.” Not all disease, however, is a result of the sin of the individual or of some of his ancestors, but it is sometimes for the glory of God (Jn. 9). There were physicians in the days of Jesus ; medical science, according to the latest researches of that day, was as far advanced as it was in the 17th century. Many of the phy sicians, however, commercialized this woman until she had spent all of her money ; and instead of being better, she was worse. Her experience is similar to that of many a person today who has been commercialized by some unscrupulous physician; but, thank God, not all phy sicians are unscrupulous, for there are many who are real Christians, and who have a conscience before God and man. Jesus, however, is the Great Physician; and even though a physician be called in, one should not neglect laying the whole case before the Great Physician, Who is able to restore both body and soul. Vs. 32, 33. “And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. But the woman fearing and trembling, know ing what had been done to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth." The woman in faith pressed through the crowd, believing that if she could but touch the hem of His garment, she would receive a blessing; hence her actions. When she came up behind Him and touched His garment, power went forth from Him which healed her; and turning around, Jesus spoke and said, “Who touched Me?” He knew who it was, but the question seems to have been put in order to draw forth an expression of faith from the multitude. The woman, realizing the situation and fearing that she had done the improper thing, fell down before Him and told her entire story. Jesus did not reprove her but was sym pathetic toward her. V. 34. “And he said unto her, Daugh ter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.” By this time the spirit had departed from the girl and she was dead. Those who brought the report of the death of the daughter of Jairus, felt that it was too late to bother Jesus concerning her. Humanly speaking, it was too late; but, since Christ was God manifest in the flesh and had the power of life and death in His hands, it was not too late. Ignor ing their report, Jesus comforted the father with the cheerful words, “Fear not, only believe.” When one is in fellowship and touch with God, there is no need of fearing. The need is to continue to trust. V. 41. “And taking the child by the hand, he saith unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, Arise. Jesus, as the intervening verses show, went to the house where the

corpse of the child lajt, .and upon reaching there, spoke to her in the Aramaic lan guage, which was the vernacular of the people of Palestine of that time. With words attended by power, He spoke to her as if she were asleep, saying, “Arise,” The Christian, after he passes through, .the experience which is ordinar ily called death, is said in the Scriptures to be “asleep” ; hence the expression “asleep in Jesus.” V. 42. “And straightzvay the damsel rose up and walked: fo r she' was twelve years old.” At the command to arise, the spirit entered the lifeless corpse and the girl, arose.. When the Lord Jesus shall return in power and glory, He shall come with a shout, and the voice of the arch angel, and shall call forth them that are asleep in Him ; and they shall come forth to go to meet the Lord in the air ; and thus shall they ever be with Him.' Thus Jesus is not only the way, the truth and the life, but He is the resurrection. ate mir Jesus Shows His Mighty Power. Mark 5 :21-24, 35, 38-42. Memory Verse: “Fear not, only be liever” Mark 5 :36. Approach: How many of you boys and girls came to Sunday school this morning on the electric street car? We know the electricity was the power that made the

trolley car go. Could we see or feel the power moving the car? No, but we knew the power was there, because the car could not go of itself. There are many things in the world besides elec tricity, that have

great power. Money has great power, for it can do many things. Water has great power. Today we are to hear of the greatest power in the world. (Prayer.) Lesson Story : In our wonderful story last week we heard about the great storm on the Sea of Galilee, and how the Lord Jesus spoke to the wind and the waves. (Review, emphasizing Christ’s powerful protection, and the peace that should fill the hearts of all his children.) Boys and girls, we are having such wonderful times
