Mondi Opens Paper Product Recyclability Laboratory Mondi opened the its first recycling laboratory at its Frantschach mill in Austria to test the recy- clability of paper and paper-based packaging using non-paper components such as coatings. Conducting recycling tests in-house speeds up the process for developing sustainable packaging, said the company. While paper packaging offers many sustainability benefits, it also has certain barrier functionality limitations for products like perishable food. To enhance its functionality, non-paper compo- nents such as barrier coatings may need to be added, which in turn can impact recyclability, said Mondi. The data collected at the laboratory can be used to improve existing products and provide reliable information about their environmental impact. Mondi will also use the results to determine how the design of new packaging can be improved as well as how best to improve the circularity of its material flows. The tests are carried out on various paper and pa- per-based packaging products developed by Mondi and can determine whether the packaging can be efficiently recycled. The laboratory works in a sim- ilar way to industrial recycling facilities, but on a smaller scale. Results generated provide concrete evidence that the material can be recycled. Label Traxx To Merge With Integrated Partners Label Traxx, a provider of Print MIS/ERP solutions for the labels and flexible packaging segment, has announced the intent to merge with its two key partners: Siteline (web-to-print and sales portal/ CRM) and Batched (automated scheduling and ca- pacity planning). For the last six years, Label Traxx has collaborated with Siteline to develop and deploy a web-to-print solution that enables label customers and distribu- tors to reorder, approve artwork, pay invoices, and manage label product catalogs online. For the last three years, Label Traxx has collabo- rated with Batched to develop and deploy produc- tion optimization solutions specifically targeting the unique needs of label printing; including automat- ed scheduling, capacity planning and operational dashboards. The Batched solution enables produc- tion teams to address supply chain constraints, the growing demand for short run digital, and shorter turnaround times along with more traditional, long run flexo operations.
