Shades of Christ 1 Representing life, death, and resurrection. Throughout life we live in color with our eyes open. In death our world goes dark and our bodies take on another form. In the portrait depicting Christ’s death, the colors from his life are still pres- ent and represent his soul. Jesus was resurrected and given a new look on life. Giovanni depicts this in black and white, giving the painting a different feel than the others. Life, death, and resurrection is similar to Giovanni’s painting process. When he is painting he gives it life, then destroys it and brings it back to life again. “The living, dead, and resurrected Christ.”
