„Dom za vešanje“ mi je među 10 najboljih filmova svih vremena Posetili ste Srbiju pre skoro deset godina. Čega se seć ate, šta vas vezuje za Srbiju i Beograd? – Za vreme koje sam proveo u Srbiji vežu me le- pe uspomene. Konkretno, bio sam u Beogradu, gde sam imao priliku da predajem. Ljudi koje sam upo- znao bili su neverovatno ljubazni i gostoljubivi. Da li imate srpskog reditelja kojeg cenite ili film koji volite? – Rad Emira Kusturice je zaista izuzetan. Njegovi fil- movi poseduju kulturnu dubinu i pružaju prelep spoj realizma i magije. Kusturičin stil pripovedanja i spo- sobnost da uhvati suštinu ljudskih emocija čine nje- gove filmove pravim filmskim iskustvom. Rekao bih da je „Dom za vešanje“ u mojih deset najboljih fil- mova svih vremena. Mnogo ste radili sa Danijelom Dej-Luisom, a mi u Srbiji volimo i znamo te filmove. Da ne spo- minjemo da je verovatno najbolji glumac ikada! Kako biste opisali ovu saradnju i da li ć ete pono- vo raditi zajedno? – Raditi sa Danijelom Dej-Luisom je bila neverovat- na privilegija. Naše prijateljstvo je zasnovano na poverenju i zajedničkoj strasti za pripovedanjem. Zanatu pristupamo sa dubokom posvecenošcu i autentičnošću, oživljavajući likove na najistinski- ji moguci način. Danijelov izuzetan talenat i nepo- kolebljiva posvecenost njegovim ulogama uzdigli su filmove na kojima smo zajedno radili. Apsolutno bih voleo da imam priliku da ponovo radim sa njim u buducnosti. and ability to capture the essence of human emotions make his films a truly cinematic experience. I would say that Time of the Gypsies is among my top ten films of all time. You’ve worked a lot with Daniel Day-Lewis, and those films are very well known and loved here in Serbia. Not to mention that he is probbably the world’s best ever actor! How would you describe this cooperation and are you going to work together again? - Working with Daniel Day-Lewis has been an incredi- ble privilege. Our friendship is founded on trust and a shared passion for storytelling. We approach our craft with a deep commitment to authenticity and bring- ing characters to life in the most genuine way possible. Daniel’s exceptional talent and unwavering dedication to his roles have elevated the films we have worked on together. I would absolutely love to have the opportuni- ty to work with him again in the future.

You visited Serbia almost ten years ago. Do you have any strong memories of that trip; with what do you associate Serbia and Belgrade? - I have some fond memories of my time in Serbia. Spe- cifically, I was in Belgrade, where I had the opportunity to teach. The people I met were incredibly kind and wel- coming. Do you have a Serbian director that you appreciate or film that you like? - Emir Kusturica’s work is truly remarkable. His films pos- sess cultural depth and provide a beautiful blend of re- alism and magical realism. Kusturica’s storytelling style
