Missing Paintings Very early in its history, the Club borrowed several paintings from the Navy’s Office of Naval Records and the Naval Library presumably to decorate the clubhouse. Unfortunately, the paintings subsequentially went missing. When the Navy requested the return of the paintings, the Club had to scramble to fulfil their obligation. To learn more about how the Club was able to satisfy the Navy’s request, click here .

Secretary’s Message By Col D’Anne Spence, USAF, Ret.

The Army Navy Country Club Annual Meeting will be held on Monday, 6 October 2025 at the Arlington Clubhouse. At the meeting, we will elect Resident Members to the Board of Governors to serve for the period October 2025 to October 2028. Our By-Laws provide that only Resident Members may stand for election to the Board. At this year’s Annual Meeting, we are presently scheduled to elect 9 Governors. We will elect 5 Governors from those Resident Members who are on Active Duty or Selected Reserve Resident status. We will elect 4 Governors from those Resident Members who are in the All Others status. We will ensure that nomination forms are available in the Administration Office and on the Club’s website no later than Monday, 2 June 2025. To ensure the publication of the nomination in the Annual Meeting Packet, we must receive the nomination no later than Tuesday, 15 July 2025. We will permit nominations from the floor at the Annual Meeting, but please advise me of any such notifications prior to the meeting so I can ensure the floor nomination is of a qualified Resident Member. The use of military rank for nomination and election purposes is permissible under Title 10 of the US Code. For example, an Active Duty army officer may identify herself in the form of “CPT Jane Doe, USA,” and a retired army officer may identify herself as “CPT Jane Doe, USA (Ret.). Former military officers may not use their former rank as a preface, but may use their highest wartime rank as follows: Ms. Jane Doe (CPT, USA). I strongly encourage those who are interested in serving on the Board of Governors to familiarize themselves with our By-Laws, Club Rules, and Organization Manual. I am available to answer any questions you might have about this process at danne.emmett.spence@gmail.com or by phone: (703) 835-4108.

When at the Club, members and guests are expected to adhere to the standards of attire as outlined in the Club Rules. We’re often asked what this means and we’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of some highlights from the Clubhouse rules of attire. As a general rule, clothes must be clean, dry, and appropriately fitted for the activity in a Country Club setting. We ask that you are mindful of these and share them with your family and guests as you enjoy the Club. If you see or experience an issue that requires attention, please inform our staff so they may address it appropriately, and if requested, please follow their instructions. Members who violate the standards of attire as outlined in the Club Rules can be met with disciplinary action as outlined in the Organizational Manual. A full copy of the clubhouse dress code rules and attire for individual activities at the Club may be found on the club’s website or by scanning the QR code below or click here . WDCGA: Women’s District of Columbia Golf Association

The Women’s District of Columbia Golf Association is in full swing for the 2025 season. On April 26, the Icebreaker, traditionally held at Argyle CC was rained out. In the 2-day Keefer Cup held at Belmont Country Club May7-8, Shelley Savage placed 3rd Net. The Keefer, traditionally held at Chevy Chase offers gross stroke play competition to players with an index of 14.5 or less. On May 9, golfers battled less than perfect weather and conditions to compete in the Houlahan cup at MT Vernon CC. ANCC was well-represented in the tournament and on the leaderboard. Tina Gwilliam placed 2nd overall gross. In the 2nd flight Danielle Hetzler and Didi Summers placed 1st and 2nd respectively. Amy Hawkins lead the 3rd flight with Margaret Ann Connors placing second. Former MVCC member Karen Marcotte tied for 3rd overall, but took home 1st place in the 4th flight. In the 5th and 6th flights respectively, Jaehwa Kim and Bev Winston grabbed both second place slots. Team matchplay will be wrapped up by 27 May. Unfortunately, the ANCC teams have struggled a little this year. Registration has opened for the June Cups which will be held at Montgomery CC on June 17. With the exception of the Class A Cup which is open to players with an index of 12.4 and below, players generally compete against players with and index spread of about 4 strokes. Both gross and net prizes are awarded. Registration opens May 27 for the Bennett Pinehurst 2 Lady event at International Country club on June 24th. This is a very popular event which “sells out” early, so sign up ASAP. For more information, review our website at WDCGA.org or contact me for questions. Membership ($75) starts in November of each year; however, there are 20 tournaments still on the schedule.

WALT JEFFRESS

Dr. Caroline McDaniel caroline@conciergephysicaltherapist.com

703-302-0951

info@conciergephysicaltherapist.com

We are proud to partner with the American Red Cross to hold what we hope to be the first of many future blood drives. Our goal for this inaugural event is at least 54 donors! As an organization dedicated to supporting those who serve the nation—both military and civilian—this event provides a meaningful opportunity to give back in a way that directly impacts the well-being of others. An estimated 38% of Americans are eligible to give blood or platelets, but of those, less than 10 percent actually donate each year. Each pint of blood we collect can help save up to 3 lives and will touch the lives of so many more. What a great way to pay it forward and make an impact on people in our community and across the country. Walt’s dedication to the game and his commitment to supporting charitable causes through these events is truly inspiring. It took 20 years to complete the 100 Pro-Ams (2005-2025) at various venues, over 15 years at the Chubb Classic in Naples Florida. Walt exemplifies the spirit of giving back. Our team is very excited about this! If you are healthy and eligible, please come out. Donors will have the opportunity to enter raffles for various services from across the club. If you’re unsure if you are eligible to donate, register for a slot and show up to find out. We celebrate his achievement and look forward to many more years of success and generosity. Well done, Walt! Congratulations to Walt Jeffress for reaching an incredible milestone—his 100th PGA TOUR Champions Pro-Am at the Chubb Classic!
