BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE VICE-PRESIDENT & CHAIRMAN

Dear Members,

As you may have noticed, the Health Centre is undergoing a major renovation. Once completed, you will be able to enjoy a spanking new Health Centre with modern facilities. Completion date of the renovation will be slightly delayed as there are many minor details to be worked out to ensure the handover of a modern and classy Health Centre. You will be proud of the rejuvenation of the place catered for a relaxing mind and soul besides keeping yourself fit with state-of-the-art equipment. Enhancement of the Club’s revenue streams is one of the roles of the Business Development Committee while it balances member benefits at affordable costs. Though not an easy balancing act, revenue generated will be channelled for members’ benefits in whatever form and wherever possible. At the moment, we have kept the membership fees low and have also subsidised club events for members. With higher revenue, we hope to keep membership fees at affordable levels to attract more members. To achieve our goals, my Committee has worked hard and continues to do so in developing strategies to innovate and meet the new aspirations of members in a digitally connected environment. We are always on the lookout for relevant organisations to partner with for the benefit of our members to reward them with more perks. We are also constantly looking at ways to bring in new facilities to TGC. In addition to a proposed beer garden under a sky lit night, we are in talks with operators to bring in the bicycle-sharing concept. Look out for the Club's news feeds. Many new happenings will take shape in the Club's premises to make it a "Smart Club" of choice for meetings, conferences, events with a holistic spread of programmes for members to indulge in. On a final note, on behalf of TGC, I would like to express my appreciation for your continuous and unwavering support. Do join us at the various activities to make it a vibrant club for our grassroots members that we can be proud of.

HOW THE OLDER SINGAPOREAN WORKER CAN REMAIN COMPETITIVE Once you hit a more matured age does it mean that you should take a back seat and watch youngsters work while you just enjoy time with friends and family? For the lucky ones who are financially independent it may be a yes but for those who have not made enough for their retirement, working is still a necessity. In fact, from the second half of this year, employers will be legally obliged to offer re-employment to eligible Singaporean workers up to the age of 67, two years higher than the current age ceiling, so Singaporeans are generally working longer in the job place. But how can the older worker ascertain employability? Contrary to popular belief, being older does not mean that you are disadvantaged. There are many winning factors for older workers, some job positions call for experienced matured workers and there are also openings where older workers can compete very well alongside youngsters. Below are some reasons employers hire older workers: Punctuality Have you seen fellow young workers who leisurely walk into the office at 10am even though the time to report for work is 830am? Their excuses would that they live far away and need time to commute to the office. But matured workers usually make it a point to be punctual and arrive on the dot for work. Honesty Older workers are prone to be honest as they see their job as a reflection of their personal integrity, compared to younger workers who think not much about telling a fib now and then just to get away with things or push the blame to fellow workers.

Good listeners Older workers are also better listeners and hence easier to train. Relatively, younger workers may see themselves as smart enough and tune out when supervisors coach them on work details. Indeed older workers can produce high quality work with their dedication, but how can the older worker make himself more competitive? People willing to work in the booming sectors such as the IT and healthcare for example will find themselves with a stable job to see them through their twilight years.

TGC'S ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2017

The Annual General Meeting was held at the Auditorium on 28 July 2017 from 8pm.

Following transaction of the usual AGM matters, the attending 167 Ordinary and Founder members were treated to a sit-down dinner at the Multi-purpose Hall as well as performances by a Fei Yu Qing Look-alike and the multi-talented and visually impaired musician Daniel Ng.

The evening ended with two rounds of Tombola that awarded a $100 voucher each to winners Mr Ang Bee Hock and Mr Lim Hwee Hong.

Dear Members, Please be informed that the Jackpot Room will cease its operations with effect from 1 November 2017. The last day of operation will be on 31 October 2017. CLOSURE OF JACKPOT ROOM

New government regulations, as well as declining patronage over the years, had led the Management Committee to decide to close the Jackpot Room.

We seek your understanding and please look forward to the new Members’ Exclusive Room and Jacuzzi facility when the renovation of the Health Centre is completed. The Club would channel the resources formerly used for the Jackpot to better serve you. The new Jacuzzi and Members’ Room will be available for your use once the renovation of the Health Centre is complete. Other recreational facilities are also in the pipeline.
