Levine Academy Gala 2024 Tribute Journal

Nate Levine’s father, Morris, gave him this advice:“Work is a curse” and “When you get to Texas, don’t tell anyone you’re Jewish ‘cause they’ll never leave you alone.” Thank God for us, he didn’t listen! In his book Getting In Tune , Nate admitted that “Most of the values I absorbed as a child

needed to be unlearned.” He says,“I often feel as if I were raised on a different planet and I’ve been adjusting - trying to get in tune, ever since.”

When Nate first entered Hebrew School in Ulster County, NY to prepare for his Bar Mitzvah, he was far behind all the other students. When he was asked to read out loud, he stumbled through the words. A boy began to snicker, prompting the class to join in. Nate resolved that he was never going back there. Despite these childhood challenges, and with his wife Ann, the school teacher, at the helm, they met with a long series of successes, and then they turned their attention not away but toward Jewish education. Our son, Ari, was in the very first class at Solomon Schechter/ Levine Academy in 1979. Our daughters, Sury Sacher, Kari Ceitlin, Lauren Korenvaes, and Abby Bates, are all graduates of Levine. Our granddaughter, Ray Sacher, will graduate this year. Ann and Nate have come a long way from Ellenville, NY, and we all are the benefactors. We are In Tune with them. With admiration and love, Dr. David and Reesa Feinstein
